My career has largely been with Bergen Pipe Supports Group (Formerly Pipe Supports Limited) which evolved from a small, privately owned business founded in 1968 and turning over approximately £1M in sales in 1979 to being a wholly owned subsidiary of Hill & Smith Holdings PLC (since 1993). At its peak it was operating from 6 manufacturing units located in UK, Thailand, China, India & the USA with licensees/strategic partners in Saudi Arabia & South AfricaI joined the business as a junior draftsman in 1979 and progressed to Group Technical Director being first appointed to the Board at the beginning of 1990.I was involved in all aspects of the business and travelled extensively in technical support, problem solving and commercial roles throughout most of Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, SE Asia, North America and Southern Africa.I was heavily involved with establishing new product lines, setting-up licensees and conducting market research as well as the strategic management and direction of the core business.I have been a Co-opted member of the BSI committee for pipe supports since 1983.I hold the role of Chairman of PVE/10/5 – BSI Committee for Pipe Supports since 2002 & I am a member of technical committee CEN/TC 267 - WG 3 for BS EN 13480-3I served as a Non-executive Director of the Energy Industries Council from November 2010 until December 2017.Since 2018 I have been running my own business, Stuart J Barry Consult Limited providing mentoring & technical support to Bergen Pipe Supports (India) Private Limited, its Agents, Licensees & many of its customers, especially those in Japan.I am available for inspection of hangers, assistance with the development of corporate standards & general advice about design, implementation, installation, commissioning & the on-going health of hanger & restraint systems.
