Blessed with 42 years experience within the industry of oil-fired heating, cooking and fuel storage covering a wide range of positions from director to fitters mate I believe I have the necessary skills and expertise to “see things from more than one perspective.”As a school lever in the early 1980s I joined my fathers business of ABGO Heating Services as an apprentice / fitters mate. By the 1990s the service element had moved aside to accommodate the growing trade sales division of ABGO, at which point I was heading the company as MD. At the turn of the millennium the family business was sold to UK Electric Group, after working with the new owners over a twelve-month transition period I decided to leave the business and set-up on my own, “back on the tools” as a fuel tank installer. 2002 I was awarded the highest accolade within my industry sector, that of OFTECs Fuel Tank Installer of the year. The black tie event in London a high point in my working career (the £1000 cheque also coming in quite handy.) 2012 I launched Specific Oil Solutions, manufacturing products for the oil-fired heating, cooking and fuel storage industries. These products being effectively problem solvers, two of which instantly spring to mind, the Universal Filter Pack, which has now sold in excess of 100,000 units and the ULTRA Compact fuel tank valve, of which we’ve built now 65,000+. 2015 assisted with guidance and advice from the late Trevor Seed (MD at J Seed & Co) and Mark Green (director at Rix Petroleum) I designed the ULTRA Compact fuel tank valve (protected by Copyright). The product was launched at FPS EXPO in 2016 and whilst not to date taken-up widely by the rotational fuel tank moulding industry, the valve has been well received by installers, with 60,000+ bottom outlet domestic and light commercial fuel storage tanks of both steel and plastic construction now protected.2018 saw the launch of our first filter manufactured from billet aluminium, this product range continues to grow and evolve. Currently there are seven basic filter variants, the largest three units having a “Spin-on” cartridge with an incredible internal filtration surface area of 1090cm2, rated at 10 micron. Every component involved in valve, filter and manifold manufacture being under constant review in terms of any possible improvements. 2020 Ultra Compact Limited was created.The ethos of the company is to continue to seek the very best in materials and processes to make our products the very best they can be. Finally, everything we’ve manufactured since 2015 has been / is HVO ready.
