I am currently employed at Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in the Operating training Department training Plant Operators to obtain their Reactor Operator and Senior Reactor Operator Licences, including both class and simulator training utilizing the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process as an Education, Training and Development Practitioner (ETDP).I have completed Senior Reactor Operator Licence training and certified as an SRO in 2018. I have subsequently spent time as an initial licence training instructor and am now involved as an instructor in Licenced Operator Requal Training (LORT). Besides presenting training in the classroom and on the simulator, I am also responsible for the development of lesson plans and assessments.

Worked as the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station Operating Procedures Group Manager. I joined the Procedures Group in 2002 from shift as a Procedure Specialist involved in compiling and reviewing all types of Operating Procedures including normal operational system procedures as well as Operating incident and accident procedures. I assisted in the development of a new procedure format standard that took into account Human factors and operating experience. This standard is still in use almost unchanged after 14 years. I was promoted to Group Manager in 2009 after acting in the position for a year. I was responsible to ensure that all procedures within the Operating arena are maintained at the highest level of quality and that Operators can operate the plant strictly according to procedure with 100% procedure compliance. Shortly after taking over the position I was personally involved in resolving a procedure use and adherence AFI from WANO as well as driving a reduction in procedure change backlog from over 600 to below 200 and has been as low as 60 procedure change requests. I was also responsible for driving the introduction of procedure verification line up checklists as well as the overall standardization of our formatting requirements. I was responsible for our EOP maintenance contract with Westinghouse Belgium and ensure the accident procedures were kept current with international best practice in accordance with the PWROG. I was also required to be a principal of the Koeberg Accident Procedures Subcommittee ensuring that updated EOP and incident procedures are technically accurate prior to regulatory approval. I was also the PWROG representative on the procedures sub-committee as well the FROG representative and have attended several FROG meetings in Paris.

I joined Eskom as a Nuclear Technician and trained and worked as a Nuclear Plant Operator and developed through Senior Nuclear Plant Operator and Principle Nuclear Plant Operator responsible for Operating the plant in the field and for isolation and lockout of equipment for maintenance. In 1993 I was selected for Reactor Operator Training and obtained my Reactor Operator Licence in 1995. I then worked in the Control room and on the plant as a Nuclear Shift Supervisor, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Koeberg’s 900MW PWR reactors and associated generating plant.
