Resume (CV)Graduated with a first class BSc (Hons) degree in Physics from Bristol University in 1991. After graduation, joined the Defence Research Agency (now Qinetiq) then worked at the Health and Safety Executive’s research laboratory in Buxton (now HSL) for four years specialising in research into the behaviour of explosives.Joined Burgoynes in 1997 as an Associate and became a Principal Member (Partner) in 2002. Investigated well over 1000 fires, gas explosions, dust explosions and other related incidents throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and South America.Given testimony as an expert witness in criminal, coroner’s and civil courts and prepared numerous reports for use in litigation. Also lectured on Fire and Explosion Investigation to delegates from the Fire Brigade, Police, Institute of Fire Engineers, lawyers and the insurance industry.Experience of investigating fires (and related incidents such as carbon monoxide poisonings and burn injuries) involving commercial, government and domestic premises, all manner of vehicles and heavy plant and equipment, fishing, cargo vessels, containerships and luxury yachts. Also investigated explosions involving gas leaks, application of flammable liquids (e.g. petrol/gasoline), biomass/grain/meal handling equipment, sewage sludge drying plant, application of Aluminium Phosphide fumigant, and incidents involving the manufacture and disposal of explosives (including personal injuries from fireworks and IEDs). Also investigated means of forced entry into premises, operation of (or failure of) fire alarms, sprinkler systems, intruder alarms and CCTV security systems. These have included deliberate interference with such systems.
