Employed as an Engineering Surveyor and helped the mining surveyors through busy times.Over the 11 months I surveyed a range of jobs which included a 72 kilometre road from thestage of pegging it to be cleared, to the end when we laid bitumen the length of it. During thecourse of the job my responsibilities included the setup and management of multiple GPSgraders for final trim, stockpile volumes, clearing boundaries and general pickup.After the road was built I moved onto Mount Marion Lithium Mine Construction. On this job Ihad a lot of responsibility as I was the only surveyor onsite. I setup survey control for thesite, clearing boundaries and areas, stockpile volumes, underground services design, set outand pickups, concrete design, set out and pickups, structural steel and mechanical checksthroughout the job as it got built. I also had to help out with blast and pit design while therewere no mining surveyors onsite.

In June 2015 Land Surveys took over SMI Global and I was lucky enough to be offered aplacement on their team. Since starting with Land Surveys I have gained a vast knowledge inmany different sectors of the surveying world.In June I finished the Paraburdoo rehab job which is detailed below then moved on to a smalljob at Rio Tinto’s West Angelas operations to rework their airport. This involved a detailedsurvey of the complete runway and setting survey control up and around the runway.I then moved on to a large civil earthworks job in the Goldfields that was a 75km single lanetrack through the bush that needed to be pegged and cleared for a 10m wide road to be put in.The job covered a large area which meant I had to manage my time well to be able to coverthe areas that needed my supervision and assistance as well as completing set tasks formyself. The operation relied heavily on machine guidance GPS which I had to setup andmaintain.Between times spent in the Goldfields I have been sharing my time at Nammuldi working withKermans to get the NPI structures to completion. On this job I spent time using GPS for simplecivil earthworks to complex Total Station surveys of crane rails.

SMI Global strives to achieve new methods in the surveying world, from monitoring systems totrailer mounted GPS systems.In the time I have spent at SMI Global I spent 2.5 months at Rio Tinto’s Nammuldi BelowWater Table Project surveying two Stackers and one Reclaimer in the stockyards. Somesurveys included alignments of idlers, chutes, pulleys, bogies and stringers, all these neededto be of high accuracy which I was able to achieve every time.After completion at Nammuldi I spent some time at Roy Hill along the new rail constructionhelping install the new communication cable between Roy Hill and Port Hedland. This hasbeen a GPS job with the use of repeaters at times.From then I started at Rio Tinto’s Paraburdoo operations with Ngarda Mining and Civil tocomplete a rehab job on a waste dump. I spent approximately 10 months in this area,surveying weekly volumes, helping the engineer and supervisors come up with a plan to bestmove the material without blocking ourselves in and keeping production up to a maximum.
