Network Engineer
CurrentIT infrastructure support for scientific researchAs part of the Infrastructure team, I help design, operate, and trouble-shoot the heavy Compute / Network / Storage infrastructure underlying the Allen Institute's basic science research institutes: Brain Sciences, Cell Sciences, and Immunology. Our data generation modalities (e.g. electron and light-sheet microscopes) produce terabytes of data per day per instrument, leading us to deliver 100G networking to the microscopes plus a 100G core network, ~20PB of mass storage in our 320 KW Data Center, and an HPC cluster offering both compute and GPU resources.Within our (7) person Infrastructure team, I specialize in Networking, with nods toward cybersecurity, including the operation of our edge Firewalls, and physical plant management (cabling and power). The Allen Institute is steadily expanding, on-course to double in size (staff count, lab space, and budget) over the next handful of years.
