Farnborough
At Triumph Structures Farnborough I worked as a manufacturing engineer, which has progressed from a graduate engineer on departmental rotation. For the first rotation I functioned in a two person team known as the commercial department. Here I assessed contracts that Aerospace companies would like to delegate to other manufacturing sites. The site focuses on non-safety critical composite aerospace parts. As a bid engineer my main roles included:- Studying engineering drawings, CAD and Bill of Materials to estimate material cost.- Estimate labour hours to produce the parts.- Apply business finance principles to the bids to finalise a contract price. - Review current contracts and record any change in material or labour costs to present to management.- Create quotations for work which fall outside of the normal contract agreements. For my second and final rotation I was seeing the life cycle of a project to alter a current process in order to find an alternative chemical to satisfy REACH requirements for anodising. I was working with a major powerplant company to ensure the new process can be used on their components. This project involved me travelling frequently to our sister manufacturing factory in Thailand to oversea the new process.Another project which I collaborated on was to research new ways into manufacturing a complex panel comprising of 17 detail parts, to result in reducing production cost and increasing yield. The main area I focussed on was migrating some special processes from hand layup to compression moulding and the planning of an assembly line.I was promoted after 18 months to a manufacturing engineer working on Boeing, Rolls Royce and Aircelle products.
During this one year internship at GE Aviation Wales I was assigned the task of RB211 Gate 3A Operations.Within this job title I was responsible for 35 aircraft technicians across 5 teams working on the fan, intermediate compressor, intermediate case, high pressure system and the turbine modules. My day to day tasks included:- Liaising with the five teams to get their progress on all of the engines flowing through the business.- Ascertain and solve material issues, whether it be supply chain or engineering related.- Meet production targets throughout each month, quarter and year.- Ensure the correct quality and health and safety procedures were being adhered to at all times. All of the engines belonged to British Airways and I often had contact with the onsite customer representatives.I also had the opportunity to spend a lot of time working with local charities as well as local schools for engineering projects
I worked within the concessions department of the park, constantly providing the high expectation of customer service and value for money during each guest's trip to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort
