I founded Natural Power with the view to it becoming a product based practical life-cycle consultancy, offering pioneering products as well as both advice and management services to the renewables industry. I was also determined Natural Power would be an inspiring place to work.During my sixteen years with Natural Power, I took the commercial, strategic and visionary lead. In this time the company grew from zero to a £19M turnover and 300 staff while maintaining an exciting profit margin. In the process I took the negotiating lead in numerous acquisitions of both technology and organisations with a view to offering cascading solutions to our key clients globally.I led the company to become the market leader in services to development, construction and operational wind farm projects in its home market, while building a respectable and expanding international business on the back of key pioneering products and market differentiators.Amongst the development team's key successes was permitting the complicated Robin Rigg offshore project in the Solway Firth which required an Act from the new Sottish Parliament as well as various permits in England and extensive consultation with stakeholders in the estuary.Several of my ideas, or products I backed, have now become industry leaders: the 'ZephIR' lidar; the 'Ventos' CFD modelling code; the 'Melogale' operational analysis tool; and the pre-cursor to GL Garrad Hassan's excellent 'Windfarmer' windfarm design software.I cultivated and cherished a culture of personal responsibility, professionalism and team working that empowered people and brought ideas leadership to everyone and resulted in a fantastic team of inspiring professionals.

One of the pioneering developers in the U.K.; I set up and ran the successful scottish office with full budget responsibility. In the process of realising Scotland's first windfarm: I prospected the site; signed up the landowner; erected the mast; designed the site; calculated the energy output; wrote the EIS; and lobbied, educated and secured the building permit. In addition my work led to securing five of the seven PPAs awarded in Scotland - all of which were built. Great organisation with great colleagues.

Optimised lift gas injection at sub-sea manifolds; carried out BOP design reviews; designed GUIs; applied Petroleum Engineering theory to software tools; skate-boarded to work and drank beer on long Friday lunches - how the world has changed.
