The LMC is responsible for all matters technical to ensure continuity of the flying operation wherever possible with the quick and efficient resolution of any technical issues that develop during production.The Line Maintenance Controller will be required to coordinate and control all maintenance requirements related to the line operation, ensuring fast and effective recovery to expedite the return to service of the aircraft by the allocation of resources and spares, whilst guaranteeing continued communication with the wider business.Responsibilities* Within Part CAMO requirements, the LMC is required to provide effective and timely technical advice and support to Operations Control Centre (OCC), Line Engineers and Flight Crews.* Liaise with OCC on all matters technical, ensuring that they have up to date clear information and the necessary understanding of the cause of production delays or AOG situations.* Support and manage information regarding AOG (aircraft on ground) recovery plans and incidents on the ground.* Manage and oversee the line maintenance plan to ensure Operations have clear visibility of planned maintenance inputs, line service checks, and Acceptable Deferred Defects (ADDs).* Control and oversee that all Add’s are raised against the correct Minimum Equipment List (MEL) reference and satisfy the limitations referenced, whilst monitoring and risk assessing all ADD’s for the cumulative effects* Ensure that all raised ADDs are tracked, planned, and prior to any expiry.* Give technical support to line engineers performing trouble shooting of defects.* Ensure that all guidance given is performed in accordance with and according to Part CAMO/ Part 145 procedures and TI’s, using the necessary spares/tooling and manpower with reference to the correct AMM information.* Attend and deliver briefings to the wider business, plus produce status reports as required.* Ensure all activities are carried out safely and standards are always met.

I was employed as a supervisor within the 2nd line maintenance facility at Waddington, which carries out in depth maintenance (up to and including ‘C’ checks on the RAF’s ISTAR E3D platform). Included in the maintenance program is a selection of in-depth inspections, modifications and functional testing with any maintenance/rectification required through component failures, or system disturbances

Dealing with the efficient and effective co-ordination, and allocation of engineering resources in support of the Stations flying tasks. Arranging and prioritising the Stations requirements for airfield & workshop services i.e. Fuel, Mechanical Transport, Ground Servicing Equipment GSE, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Structures Bays & Aircraft hangarage. Obtaining & recording the Stations aircraft serviceability states, both here & overseas, estimating the recovery times & using the information to provide a daily brief to Senior Station Executives, i.e. OC Engineering & Deputies. The forward transmission to One Group Headquarters, Main Building London, One Group Strike Command, RAF High Wycombe . Liaise with all Station Squadrons Rectification Controllers on all maintenance matters. Authorise & Arrange MT for Journeys for the collection & delivery of aircraft spares, aircrew & ground crew. Vetting, Recording & prioritising, aircraft demands, & associated GSE. Liaise on an hourly basis with Air Plans & Air Operations to ascertain availability for the next day’s flying programme. Action any out of normal hours requests, signals a rising’s. This also includes servicing assistance to visiting aircraft, allocating manpower and GSE. Royal Air Force Chief Technician, Aircraft Ground Engineer (AGE) on Boeing C-17A Globemaster III. 1st Line Maintenance, Fault Diagnosis and Rectification carried out in many variable areas around the world.Working autonomously on Mechanical, Avionic and Armament systems, in hostile and challenging environments; meeting tight timescales to ensure airworthiness of extremely valuable military assets. Maintenance and Flight Limitation deferral signatory authority, normally reserved for higher management levels. Maintenance planning, ensuring targets are met on time.Instructing trainee AGEs how to operate as a C-17A AGE, able to work to standard operating procedures, correct use of technical orders and procedures, follow HSE guidelines, maintain safe working practices throughout, thus enabling them to work autonomously worldwide. Time management, aircraft documentation and asset management become second nature with the experience of carrying out AGE duties.Held authority to raise limitations and defer faults.Integration with Boeing and international airport employees is essential, enabling assets to be sourced to assist with first line maintenance, rectification, or arrival/dispatch tasks.Included in this role was the secondary role of being the shift rectification controller, responsible for managing the technical direction of a shift of 40+ technicians and mechanics carrying out rectification and flight line tasks on multiple Boeing C17A Globemaster aircraft.
