I specialise in leading complex transformational change, in challenging growth or turnaround situations. Generally, I do this by taking positions as Chairman, MD or CRO. I have also operated as a board advisor, COO and FD. I have worked across a range of public, institutionally backed and privately owned companies. I have primarily operated within £20m-£500m revenue range SME sized businesses. I have a proven record in a variety of situations and focus developing robust organisation structures, personnel, processes and accountability. I am pragmatic, engage with people and build trust. In 2020, my approach was recognised with an award as a “Leading Expert in Corporate Restructuring & Operational Performance Improvement” and in 2021 as “Corporate Restructuring Specialist of the Year”.My roles have taken me internationally as well as working in the UK, covering Europe, US and Africa. Between 2002-10 I was a partner in a specialist debtor side turnaround firm, MPC Partners LLP. Before MPC, I undertook a leadership assignment in the US, restructuring a NASDAQ listed interactive TV business, following a spell in 1999-2001 working as COO of a software business. Between 1994-99 I worked at The Royal Bank of Scotland’s captive private equity business, becoming a board director. At RBDC, I led or was involved with investments totalling over £100m at cost and was a non-executive director of several investee companies.As well as time in PE I also have Special Situations investment experience. One focuses on large infrastructure like HS2, where we are making tunnel pirces. Another, rail products like sleepers and bearers for Network Rail, Irish Rail or light rail private customers. 3rd business in drainage products was sold in October 2023, allowing the group to position solely around a rail sector strategy. Ultimate owner is a PE firm, which has now signed a deal to sell the group, currently going through competition/merger control before completing end Q1 2025.

Also taking through COVID era.- Software technology; restructuring and interim CFO for an IoT, SaaS business.- Manufacturing; programme director for far reaching operational changes (product, procurement, manufacturing) delivering £7m profit improvement after PE investment in 2017.- Hardware technology; restructured a business that made water disinfection products.- Energy; Chairman of new company initiating a waste to energy power plant in southern UK (£100m capital outlay) with PE support. - Automotive; €300m revenue Tier 1 automotive company operating 5 geographically diverse factories (UK, Germany and India) forming metal parts and sub-assemblies. Owned by 3 PE firms and PPF post restructuring. Managed its exit from a loss-making factory. Planned a new factory ($600m project) at KAEC in Saudi Arabia in partnership with JLR and the Saudi Government. Major growth and capex initiatives for the UK factories. Managed potential flotation process with Brokers and then through an eventual group sale to a multinational.- Engineering; led merger and refinancing two engineering businesses in Coventry.- Software; an artificial intelligence software company establishing a JV.- Waste and recycling; led restructure and refinance a company making hydrocarbon waste processing systems.

Created trust and space to manage the institutional exit.- German headquartered €130m European automotive components, part of a conglomerate. Complex strategic realignment to allow divestment based on an innovative cross European finance package.- €110m European industrial fibres business. Reorganisation necessitated by market collapse post 2008 financial crisis.- CRO of a £30m building maintenance company based in the North West in the social housing sector.- A financial software provider and service enabler in the insurance sector. Restructuring Chairman. Brought in Zurich Financial Services as the largest shareholder.- COO of a £300m t/o secondhand car and finance business (£400m loan book), subsidiary of a PLC.- Tier 2 automotive sector business, which supplied silicon hoses and related assemblies for diesel engines. It was UK headquartered with operations in China and South Korea.- Executive vice Chairman of a Nairobi based East African airline business, which included a BA franchise with international routes and a Kenya/Tanzania domestic business.- Restructured an aerospace and automotive business with diverse UK factory locations turning over circa £120m. -
Interim - Us LeadIndependent Consultant 2001 - 2002Led US interests of a UK interactive TV company. Acted as CRO of its NASDAQ listed California JV involving blue chip stakeholders Gannett, AT&T, NBC and Motorola. Restructuring and refinanicng through resolving commercial and ownership issues, generating shareholder support for a new merger deal and executing relisting of the business on NASDAQ.
