Hardware R&D LeadSkroot Laboratory Inc. Jun 2023 - Present- Continuing technology transfer of my Ph.D. research on LC resonant sensor readouts post-graduation- Collaborating with a talented team of engineering researchers to develop contact-free real-time sensing solutions for developing cell therapies -
Electrical Engineer ISkroot Laboratory Inc. Aug 2022 - May 2023Ames, Iowa, United StatesI worked as an RF design enginner primarily focusing on adapting my Ph.D. research on wireless readouts for LC resonant sensors to address novel business applications in bioprocess monitoring. -
Graduate Research AssistantIowa State University Jan 2018 - Dec 2022Ames, Iowa, United StatesLow-cost portable readout design for wireless interrogation of LC resonant sensors- Developed a low-cost, portable, easy-to-use custom readout system on PCB for detecting inductively-coupled LC resonant sensors between 1-100 MHz- Characterized sensor and reader coils using VNA measurements and lumped-element modeling on Keysight ADS (Elsevier EML 2020, IEEE ISCAS 2020)- Designed the readout’s RF frontend to be driven by a Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS), and consisting of an amplifier, a mixer, a low-pass filter, and a level-shifter- Used MSP432 to control the DDS, and its ADC to digitize the readout’s outputConcurrent dual-band switch-mode push-pull power amplifier design- Analytically derived the voltage and current waveforms, output power, and efficiency of an ideal concurrent dual-band Class D PA (IEEE TCAS-II 2020)- Developed generalized design procedure for concurrent dual-band baluns, and validated design of concurrent dual-band stubbed branchline balun (at 2.45 and 5.25 GHz) using ADS Momentum simulation and PCB testing -
Graduate Teaching AssistantIowa State University Aug 2017 - Dec 2022Ames, Iowa, United StatesEE 414/514: Microwave Engineering, Fall 2017-2020, instructed by Dr. Nathan M. Neihart- Designed and graded assignments, conducted weekly help sessions, performed troubleshooting of students’ designs, and guest-lectured for a senior/graduate level.- Served as the primary lab instructor for Fall 2020 and a lab co-instructor for Fall 2017-2019, guiding students to design a microwave transmitter system (1-2 GHz)- Received the Iowa State University Teaching Excellence Award in December 2018 -
Graduate Research AssistantIowa State University Aug 2016 - Dec 2017Ames, Iowa, United StatesFor my MS thesis, my research addressed the question of how to infer the ionic concentration of electrolyte liquids using a resonant method at microwave frequencies. The approach taken involved the design of a microwave resonator and a corresponding structure to couple the energy from the resonator to a measuring instrument. It is novel because, to our knowledge, no other group has used a resonant method to characterize ionic solutions. For this work, I had to learn the fundamentals of dielectric spectroscopy, modeling and simulations on ANSYS HFSS, and nonlinear regression on MATLAB. I was co-advised by Dr. Nicola Bowler and Dr. Nathan M. Neihart. -
Rf Engineering Co-OpSkyworks Solutions, Inc. Jan 2022 - Jun 2022Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United StatesI worked as a co-op with the Skyworks HBT power amplifier (PA) design team. I co-designed a sub-3GHz LTE/5G NR envelope-tracking (ET) PA, participating in two die-level and two module-level tape-outs. On a daily basis, I ran PA design simulations on Keysight ADS and subsequently tested the performance of parts in the lab. My key technical learnings included ET PA design for performance at back-off, designing for high linearity, and testing and improving PA ruggedness. Additionally, I learned to work in a highly collaborative team environment and improve my presentation skills. -
