Inhibition of Akt Signaling Sensitizes Radioresistant Lung Cancer Cells: Lung Cancer is an important cause of morbidity and mortality world over. Radiotherapy often given together with chemotherapy in management of lung cancer. The chemotherapy involves erlotinib, gefifinib as a first line of treatment. Despite of the progress made in the treatment modalities over the past few decades Lung Cancer still has a poor survival rate, with a high rate of metastasis. Further the clinical usefulness of radiosensitization ultimately limited by the fact that a majority of cancer patients eventually develop resistance. Therefore in this study we investigated the effect of glycolysis inhibitor 2- deoxy glucose (2-DG) and Akt inhibitor IV on non small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) H1299 cells. We found that 2DG and Akt inhibitor IV was cytotoxic at lower concentration to radioresistant NSCLC cell (H1299) but not for the normal lung fibroblast cell (MRC-5).
