After a decade of senior leadership roles in UX in Asia-Pacific, I am on sabbatical... learning how we learn and researching how we can use design and technology that promotes equity and documents inequity. Specifically, I work on designing progress monitoring software, AvenuePM (https://avepm.com/) that helps teachers track the progress of students learning American Sign Language or English in schools for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. My research focuses on using learning data to solve learning design problems by identifying factors affecting student learning, using learning data to identify whether students are making adequate progress, and designing technology and data representations that support teachers and students to make sense of data.Many products and services I have designed have been Apple Hall of Fame Apps, #1 Android Apps, and won tags such as IDSA Awards, best selling products in over 65 countries. Those that I cherish most are those that wowed my customers. I am interested in creating happy customers and while, I have tried to be inclusive, most of my efforts barely reached outside the 90th percentile, with some of them reaching the 30th percentile; anything outside those was by accident and not by design. I realized this only when I went to places that had no researchers, no designers and certainly no technology. I have held leadership and other positions in the US and Asia-Pacific. Companies I have worked with include Microsoft (USA), Autodesk (China), Magic (India), Grameenphone (Bangladesh), Mercedes-Benz (China), Porsche (China), Henkel (Asia-Pacific) and a few startups. My focus is new products and services. I mostly take up complex problems that require strategic (=long term) research, design and consulting experiences for new products and services in US, Europe, India and Asia-Pacific with publications in international journals, conferences and newspapers and #1 products in over 65 countries. I graduated with an MS in Human Factors from Purdue University, USA. My thesis was on new product development for engagement and growth in social networks with distributed expertise, based on predictive modelling & discrete time-based stochastic simulations using qualitative and quantitative user research data collected while designing and curating online communities.Otherwise, I am mostly on the road exploring cultures & countries :)
