Following a major career transition, Susan Pomerantz, Founder and President of Concepts for Living, ventured into health care 22 years ago at the Jewish Home for the Aging as Director of Volunteer Services. From there, Sue developed prototype volunteer programs for privately owned nursing facilities throughout the Los Angeles area. However, it was her love for hospice that gave her a heartfelt mission. At the inception of a new Southern California hospice, Sue was invited on board as the Director of Community Education and Admissions, as well as the Director of Volunteer Services. With a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of Illinois, Sue actively utilized her background in communications to educate the community in the hospice philosophy. As owner of Concepts for Living since 1999, her respect and love for seniors is validated daily and the educating continues. With Concepts, she combines her instincts for listening, encouraging and caring with her formal training in communications, to accomplish the mission of Concepts: helping those in need of direction and change with most appropriate answers to their living needs, to know the choices available to them and hence, the solution. Most recently, Concepts has expanded into geographical areas beyond Los Angeles and Ventura counties. While not wanting to compromise the model of the Concepts care consultant who lives within the area they live, Sue has carefully reached out to partner with services throughout California whose model is very similar to that of Concepts, each boasting the level of individual care and concern that is showered upon each and every client they serve.Specialties: Public speaking/Presentations: independent senior living, assisted living, senior housing (all levels), hospice care, retirement communities, health care education

Founder/CeoConcepts For Living Apr 1999 - PresentWoodland Hills, CaConcepts was designed as a support to families of seniors and to seniors themselves searching out alternative residential places to live. Based on the model of hospice, each client is regarded individually, listened to with compassion, care and a very good ear. Each senior consultant not only offers a background in senior services, but offers their shoulders to lean on and their hands to hold. Our clients are held in the highest esteem and while their stories may have the thread of similarity, each one is unique and special to who they are and the needs they require. Their personalities and social desires and capabilities are considered as much as their physical needs for their level of care. Each woman and gentleman is looked at for their total life, not just who they are today, but the sum total of the decades that have MADE them who they are today. Most importantly, they are RESPECTED and their caregivers and families are supported with our knowledge and guidance from their first phone call to us and onto forever. Not to be forgotten....all of the above mentioned, OUR SERVICES TO ARE CLIENTS ARE FREE. -

Director Of Admissions And Community EducationHospice Services Of California Aug 1992 - Feb 1999Culver City, CaMy position was two-fold. It was to educate the lay community as to the beauty of hospice services, the physical pain management and the emotional support offered to both the patient and their loved ones who need the care and caring, as well. On the Admissions side, it was vital that the liasons in our department convey to the families all the gentleness and caring that comes with such services. It is with this philosophy in mind and my training in hospice that allowed me to build Concepts for Living with the same purpose in the same manner.

Director Of Volunteer ServicesJewish Home For The Aging Nov 1991 - Apr 1993The Jewish HOme for the Aging was my foray into senior care. I began as a volunteer while my mother-in-law was in residence. Shortly after, there were some changes made and when the then director was moved into the position of Activities Director, I was offered the job as director of the volunteer department. My job was to keep our residents active, busy and happy with a committed group of volunteers willing and able to do just that. When I first arrived there, the median age of the volunteers matched the ages of the residents! I saw the benefits of introducing youth into the program and offered high schools in the community service hours to their juniors and seniors for time served, an excellent addition to their college applications. This influx of energy and smiles was welcomed like a gift-wrapped present at Chanukah!! And both generations grew and gained from this interaction. It became a hugely happy and successful program. When I left for Summit Care, I continued the student involvement in the volunteer programs there, as well. -
Director Of Development, Volunteer DepartmentsSummit Care Corporation Apr 1990 - Aug 1992Multiple LocationsSummit Care Corporation was, at the time, a large, privately owned group of both nursing homes and assisted living communities throughout Southern California and Texas. It was a rare concept that a for-profit organization would be interested in enhancing the quality of life for their patients and residents through volunteer services. The volunteers were utilized for everything from outtings to bedside visits, from working within the activity departments to reading to a resident in need. Through the vision of the CEO of Summit, I was hired to develop such departments throughout their centers, based on my time in such a position at The Jewish Home. Additionally, for Summit, I wrote a "How To" manual on developing and implementing such programs. I was then hired in this capacity for Hospice Services of California and with a fervent interest in hospice, I moved into that immediately.
