My long-term research goal is to investigate the effect of climate change on crop production for efficient use of resources in irrigated as well as dryland cropping systems, and to simulate future threats on crop productivity for sustainable agriculture. My second M.S. and Ph.D. studies at New Mexico State University (NMSU), USA, were focused on the influence of different abiotic stresses on physiology, growth, root water extraction and yield formation of spring safflower. I have evaluated the performance of spring safflower under different irrigation levels, under preseason irrigation vs. no-preseason irrigation conditions, under regulated deficit irrigation and under different salinity levels. I enjoyed conducting green house and field experiments at NMSU. I have also adapted the DSSAT (Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer) model for spring safflower to predict its growth and yield for the first time in the world. A part of my project was to improve irrigation management practices of spring canola. I have substantial knowledge of field experimental designs, and statistical analysis. During my first M.S. at Punjab Agricultural University, India, I studied the effect of different planting dates on cotton growth and yield.In future, I would like to work with multi-disciplinary research team working on crop production, crop physiology, crop modeling, irrigation and nutrient management. Made different nutrient solutions to irrigate plants to develop symptoms. Students got the chance to identify different nutrient deficiency symptoms in crop plants practically.
