About Gajen Sunthara
Gajen Sunthara is the former White House Presidential Innovation Fellow (PIF) and United States Digital Service (USDS) alum. He was a tech-architect for President Obama’s Precision Medicine Initiative and Nation’s healthcare interoperability which uses open FHIR standards across numerous U.S. federal agencies with private sectors. Gajen has deep healthcare domain knowledge across all healthcare specialties and workflows as he pioneered in the development of early Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems in the private and public sectors. He spent a couple of decades of his career at Boston Children’s Hospital, the nation’s leading pediatric hospital, where he developed Epic and Cerner EHR systems and clinical workflows as a Principal Software Architect. In addition, he helped advance the EHR modernization efforts across federal agencies for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the U.S. Department of Defense. Previously, Gajen was the Head of Innovation for Commure, where he helped build products and architect the platform. Before that, he spent a few years as Director of Innovation R&D at Boston Children's Hospital on special projects. He is also the founder of 1upHealth, Inc., an FHIR® Platform For Claims & Clinical Data Acquisition, Exchange & Compute, which raised $74.5+ MM along with 2 startup exits. Currently, Gajen is CTO and tech-cofounder for SimpliFed, while being a Senior Advisor for Harvard Medical School’s Primary Care program and has a few advisory roles for startups and enterprises. Gajen has a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Wentworth Institute of Technology and a M.S. in Information Technology from Harvard University.

Currently working with NIH and researchers to create IT infrastructures for participants to donate their health data for research purposes to support the President's Precision Medicine Initiative.
