About Susan Abbott

I am a dedicated, hard-working and detail-oriented individual, with the drive and commitment to complete any task I am assigned to the fullest extent of my abilities. I have a passion for data analysis, and significant skills in taking large amounts of data and transforming it into information which is of use. I also have a passion for quality assurance.I have experience in Quality Management, with emphasis on document management, undertaking audits, identifying and investigating non-conformities, change management, root cause analysis and data analysis for key performance indicator monitoring. I am an advanced user of the Ideagen Quality Management System.I have worked for the NHS since 2014, most of which has been spent in a Cellular Pathology Laboratory which is accredited by UKAS to standard ISO 15189:2012.I have excellent computer skills, and am an expert user of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook and Excel. I also have an accurate typing speed of around 70wpm, which assists in my extensive experience in taking complex minutes in meetings. I have significant experience in using SAP Business Objects, and some experience with SQL (specifically Microsoft SQL Server) to extract information from complex databases, and am skilled at turning this data into reports which can provide valuable information to both local and national contacts within the NHS.I enjoy working in a team, and relish having the freedom to use my own initiative within the team to complete my part of the assigned task. I am a mature and sensible person, with a good respect for authority and for my colleagues. I am considered friendly, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to support my colleagues, by utilising my skills to the advantage of the team. I am always happy to share my abilities with colleagues by teaching them new skills and helping them develop themselves. In my time in the NHS I have been nominated for "Above and Beyond" awards by my colleagues, for going the extra mile to help out.Outside of work, I enjoy reading, computer and console gaming, cooking and baking, and historical reenactment of the early medieval period. I am mainly interested in the "living history" elements, researching how people of that time lived and portraying an appropriate character for the public who visit the shows. This hobby has allowed me to enhance my research skills, as well as developing my communication both with my fellow reenactors and the public. It has also allowed me to improve my crafting skills by making my own authentic clothing for this hobby.

I regularly attended meetings and took thorough minutes, typed them up and circulated to those who need them.I assisted in the creation and maintenance of various databases and spreadsheets in order to monitor the information necessary to ensure that the service is running to its full potential, and to identify any areas which require improvement. This information included taking on a full audit of all the equipment across the three UHL hospital sites, and ensuring that all the equipment is where it should be, has been maintained, and is fully operational. I also created a spreadsheet which allows for various key performance indicators to be recorded and analyzed across the labs to identify areas of improvement.Much of this information is used as part of the departments plan to maintain and gain further accreditation by various laboratory accreditation services.I was also involved in the maintenance and update of various externally-created databases, including the Q Pulse electronic quality management system I had contact with staff of all levels, up to and including the Clinical Director of Pathology. I also provided general departmental administration and secretarial support to the Deputy Service Managers as required to support departmental activity. This included faxing, photocopying, filing and letter writing as required, as well as preparing interview packs when the department was recruiting new staff. As my role involved having access to personally identifiable information for patients across the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland area, I was bound by strict confidentiality rules. This means that I have a very high level of understanding of both the theory and practical application of information governance (including the data protection act and the Caldicott principles of confidentiality). I also developed working relationships with colleague within the Trust as well as outside, such as the Leicester Coroners Office. These relationships put me in good stead for communicating with many people, and varying my method and responses accordingly, all the while remaining professional. Show less
