I am a writer and communications professional adept at marketing communications, issues management, public, and community relations. I specialize in crafting narratives that capture the people, places, projects, and passions that differentiate an organization, advance its communication and strategic vision, and grip readers’ heads and hearts. My wide range of writing and editing experience includes newspaper, magazine and newsletter articles, personal essays and fiction. I have held my current position as the main writer for the Marketing and Communications Department in the University of Denver’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) since August 2022. I primarily focus on researching and writing feature stories, faculty, student, and alumni profiles for the college’s weekly online publication “CAHSS News.” My articles convey the unique, enduring value of a liberal arts education in shaping tomorrow’s leaders and advancing the greater good. Before that, I filled a similar, temporary position as senior writer for the University of Colorado Denver’s central Marketing and Communications Department, writing for their campuswide online publication “CU Denver News,” and helped with press releases and media pitches. Prior to my position with CU Denver, I worked as a contract writer/editor over many years, researching, writing, and editing feature stories for newspapers, magazines, newsletters and a variety of corporations. I have authored feature stories, articles, and personality profiles for large and small organizations as well as community newspapers such as the “Washington Park Profile,” where my popular “People of South Denver” series focused on the diverse, captivating voices of artists, musicians, writers, elected representatives, community leaders, and activists. I am a former, regular contributor to Mountain Living magazine and, through my former work for Costello Productions, feature writer for the Community College of Denver’s online and print publications.My short fiction and poetry have been published in a variety of national literary magazines including Amarillo Bay, House Journal, Nifty Lit, Sad Girls’ Club, Esthetic Apostle, Eclectica, JMWW, Carve, and The Saint Ann’s Review. My short story collection Safe Haven was a 2012 finalist for the Colorado Book Award. I also spent many years teaching creative writing enrichment classes to children and as an advocate for literary and gifted-and-talented programs within Denver Public Schools.
