Susan J. Fields has worked in the field of development for more than thirty years. Between 1994 and 2011 she served as Director of Institutional Advancement at Holy Cross High School in Flushing, Queens, where she built a comprehensive advancement program raising more than $12.5 million dollars for the school's most pressing needs. Mrs. Fields grew up in Hollis, Queens and Seaford, Long Island. After receiving a BA and MA in English and Secondary Education from Hofstra University, she taught middle school English for 16 years. She embarked upon a fundraising career in 1986 at the United Nations International School. where she built an active group of more than 200 volunteers. Mrs. Fields served on the UNIS Board of Directors between 1990 and 1996. During the fall of 1993, she assumed the position of Development Assistant in the Major Gifts Department of United Jewish Appeal National Inc. where she collaborated with UJA leadership in planning events for the Prime Minister’s Council, an elite group of 1200 major donors. While working at the UJA, Mrs. Fields began her studies in fundraising at the NYU Heyman Center for Philanthropic Studies. Since her retirement in 2011, she has dedicated her time to writing for nonprofit organizations and has studied fiction and nonfiction writing at the Gotham Writers Workshop since 2014. Her extensive knowledge of fundraising makes her particularly adept at writing communications materials for nonprofits. Mrs. Fields has served as a member of the Community Affairs Committee of the Queens Chamber of Commerce, the Communications Committee of the NYC Chapter of the AFP, and the AFP National Philanthropy Day Committee. She is a trained Life Coach, has studied lettering design and calligraphy at the Art Students League and School of Visual Arts and is an accomplished Argentine tango dancer and performer. Mrs. Fields has two grown children and three grandchildren and resides in mid-town Manhattan.
