Advances the corporate research and development enterprise as a member of NORC’s Executive Council. Leads Research Science, the division of ~120 statisticians, survey methodologists, data scientists, and quantitative social scientists who advance NORC’s methods of design and analysis through cross-functional collaboration, efficient statistical operations, fit-for-purpose methodological research and development, and targeted business development. Executive sponsor for initiatives related to data and human subjects protection, research quality, data science and artificial intelligence, statistics, and analytics. Updates NORC’s Board of Trustees on select initiatives. Senior statistical advisor to several enterprise-level projects, including public opinion and election surveys, health care evaluations, and equity research.

The ASA’s mission is to promote the practice and profession of statistics. Its vision is a world that relies on data and statistical thinking to drive discovery and decisions. The ASA is governed by an elected Board of Directors whose work is shaped by the ASA’s Strategic Plan. As the “Big Tent for Statistics,” the ASA works to increase the visibility of the profession and to ensure its future.

Mentored graduate students on RAND projects, guided independent study, and served as dissertation committee member.

Delivered high-impact policy research findings to clients and to the public. Accomplishments include constructing the first-ever adjustment of clinical process measures for patient socioeconomic status in a value-based purchasing program (for Medicare Advantage health plans); informing the design of the Medicare Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility prospective payment system; conducting research that led to findings briefed to US Congressional committees on military and veterans’ mental health care and autonomous vehicles; and completing 100+ peer-reviewed publications and numerous invited talks. Obtained funding as Principal Investigator of grants funded by NIH (R01) and AHRQ (R21, R03). Project co-leader or lead statistician on contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Veterans Health Administration. Served on advisory committees, including National Academy of Medicine, and NIH and AHRQ grant review panels. Served the American Statistical Association in several roles (recently, Past Chair of Health Policy Statistics Section, Past Chair of the Section on Bayesian Statistical Science).

Led recruiting of PhD statisticians and MS level analysts from top statistics programs. Developed and maintained excellent external relationships with top academic departments. Collaborated with managers across the management matrix to identify recruiting opportunities. Managed core statistical activities, including a productive statistical research program and RAND’s internal consulting service.
