I was once told that in business one rises to the level of incompetence, in that the reward for demonstrated competence is being pushed out of your comfort zone until you fail. As a doer by nature, the more managerial task are a challenge. The past few years especially have been less coding and more mentoring, watching with some jealously as bright, younger staff absorb new skills and get the opportunity to be hands-on in delivering solutions. What changes will this new role of "senior manager" bring?

Webmaster. For USAID funded Health Policy projects, Ms. Pitcher serves as the webmaster and sole software developer. In this role, she provides day to day support for content managers and operations staff, recommends new technologies, implements requested system modifications, suggests enhancements, and maintains the server environments. She provides dedicated support and development work for intranets and public websites, all of which utilize content management systems, as well as ad hoc Word Press, SharePoint, and Teams configuration for various activity sites. For the past 10 years she has done the advanced accessibility remediation for HP+ project documents. Past experience includes upgrading and restructuring a legacy PHP/MySQL application, splitting off and merging intranet and internet functionality with corporate systems, synchronizing data between corporate and project applications, deploying an AJAX based video browser with an accessible equivalent, upgrades to ColdFusion, SQL, MySQL, WordPress, and Windows Server.Technically, I have not changed employers since I started with Analytical Sciences Inc. (ASI) in February 2003, but due to a series of mergers, acquisitions, divestments, and re-brandings it looks like I switch companies every couple years.

Lead Software Developer for the VAERS application- 2 web servers and 2 database servers hosting 3 private and 3 public websites. Provided overall guidance on the technical implementation of enhancements to the application, as well as providing hands-on coding support, VSS and SQL server administration. 2005: developed detailed test plans for server environments and trained non-technical users, contributing to the successful completion of a government audited Functional Test for offsite disaster recovery. 2004: served as the CM Analyst during the CMMI assessment process, contributing to the project’s successful achievement of SCAMPI level 2 accreditation. As a Senior Web Developer, developed E-business solutions for a focused technology planning and Internet services company specializing in Macromedia ColdFusion applications for commercial, entrepreneurial, government, and nonprofit organizations.
