Profile bio

About Susan Pitcher

My passion is finding a solution; I enjoy writing the one-time query that saves a colleague 2 hours of manual calculation as much as designing and implementing a complex, project results data collection and reporting system. I understand the realities of business constraints and will work in a low-code environment to be compliant, while doing some complex json formatting to keep the views as user-friendly as possible. I currently serve on the Communications Team for the USAID-funded PROPEL Health project and its predecessors, maintaining the public facing sites, legacy Adobe ColdFusion sites, Microsoft 365 Teams and intranets, and activity-funded WordPress sites. I provide advice on accessibility and do advanced document remediation. In my many years of building data driven, web-based solutions, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the software development cycle and experience in gathering user requirements and communicating with clients and end users. I can evaluate security needs and have worked in positions of significant trust.I have first-hand knowledge of the benefits and drawbacks of work both in highly structured environments- Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI)- and in very relaxed ones. I feel equally comfortable working as a member and leader of teams or as an army-of-one, but love the opportunities to help younger staff accelerate their skills. My own technical skills include designing system architecture and application framework, managing project implementation, developing and supporting training activities for users and administrators, as well as the day-to-day necessities of image, content, video, and data manipulation needed for successful websites, email marketing, and social media engagement.I have extensive experience with data conversion/migration from legacy systems, deciphering and documenting previously undocumented applications and a knack for quickly picking up where previous development ended. I can discern when it makes better business sense to adapt my coding style to the extant base and when an overhaul is needed, although I definitely prefer to write JavaScript over using a library. I have performed innumerable version upgrades to server operating systems, databases, WordPress installations and various middleware.Specialties: Legacy application updates, restructuring and integration; Configuration management; lifecycle development; ColdFusion 3-2021, Adobe Creative Cloud; Transact SQL; 508 compliance

Listed skills include Sql, Microsoft Sql Server, Software Development, Databases, and 18 others.

Senior Communications Manager

Washington, District Of Columbia, United States

I was once told that in business one rises to the level of incompetence, in that the reward for demonstrated competence is being pushed out of your comfort zone until you fail. As a doer by nature, the more managerial task are a challenge. The past few years especially have been less coding and more mentoring, watching with some jealously as bright, younger staff absorb new skills and get the opportunity to be hands-on in delivering solutions. What changes will this new role of "senior manager" bring?

Senior Web Application Developer, Comms Manager

Washington Dc

Webmaster. For USAID funded Health Policy projects, Ms. Pitcher serves as the webmaster and sole software developer. In this role, she provides day to day support for content managers and operations staff, recommends new technologies, implements requested system modifications, suggests enhancements, and maintains the server environments. She provides dedicated support and development work for intranets and public websites, all of which utilize content management systems, as well as ad hoc Word Press, SharePoint, and Teams configuration for various activity sites. For the past 10 years she has done the advanced accessibility remediation for HP+ project documents. Past experience includes upgrading and restructuring a legacy PHP/MySQL application, splitting off and merging intranet and internet functionality with corporate systems, synchronizing data between corporate and project applications, deploying an AJAX based video browser with an accessible equivalent, upgrades to ColdFusion, SQL, MySQL, WordPress, and Windows Server.Technically, I have not changed employers since I started with Analytical Sciences Inc. (ASI) in February 2003, but due to a series of mergers, acquisitions, divestments, and re-brandings it looks like I switch companies every couple years.
