Independent Reference, Recruiting And Leadership Consultant

Current

Washington D.C. Metro Area, Nationally

Reference checking--primarily of finalists for executive positions in the non-profit community college sector-- demands discretion, intuition and, above all, fact-based interviewing. The process includes online searches, personal interviews with candidates, assessment of their written application materials and multiple interviews of their references, both listed and unlisted. Confidential findings are compiled in a multi-page report to the client. Fast-turn-around is often required.

I've traveled the world for big stories--India, for Mother Teresa's funeral--but I invest as much effort and integrity into smaller but equally important assignments.

Director Of Development

Mehera Shaw, Llc, A Fair-Trade Company

Jaipur Area, India

Co-created (with Mehera Shaw's founder) and managed a crowd-funding and marketing campaign for this Fair-Trade certified, artisan garment company. The goal was to upgrade the company's water filtration system, the final step in the process of becoming fully GOTS certified. The crowd-funding campaign kicked off in early 2018, with a goal of raising $10,000 -- enough to pay for a new filtration system. The campaign also provided individual water filtration units for block printers who work at home in nearby villages. In addition, I worked with Mehera Shaw's leadership team in India to help them pass the GOTS status visits and interviews. In the process, I visited India three times and became knowledgeable about the craft of block printing, and the need for better management of the expectations of Western-based companies who want to do business with small, skills-based artisan companies in India.
