I believe in the power of a story, and in the combined power of language and design to communicate ideas. By presenting complex data in clear prose, and framing information with strong, artful design, I help academic institutions and non-profits share, promote, and advance their work.I am an editor who designs, a graphic designer who writes, a wordsmith who uses visual design to make words even more powerful.I take a small project—creating data displays, designing a PowerPoint template, making an infographic for a Twitter posting, editing an abstract—as seriously as a large one, focusing on strong design and writing, and on effective ways to convey information.I'm equally comfortable editing peer-reviewed manuscripts and federal grant proposals, or producing extensive data reports: designing all graphic and textual elements, collaborating with authors on content, developing page layouts and data visualizations, graphing data, editing text, proofing for accuracy, consistency, and style, indexing, working with a commercial printer, and creating related web files.I’m also a book designer, with work ranging from cookbooks and picture books for the Minnesota Historical Society Press to scholarly monographs for the University of Minnesota Libraries.I love using the power of the page—whether made of paper or pixels—to tell a story.
