With nearly four decades of professional experience in newspapers, I teach journalism and communication courses at Elon University. My reporting experience spans news, features, investigative journalism and opinion writing. I also spent 15 years as an editor in roles including bureau chief, newsroom assignments editor, investigative team editor, and features editor. I was a three-time winner of the Carl Bell Editing Award presented by the A.P. News Council.I have also spoken extensively to community, educational and professional organizations, as well as being a featured guest on TV and radio news programs.
