I'm an explorer, author, educator, and speaker. Long-distance sea kayak expeditions are my passion. I've completed two, approximately 1,200-mile, solo sea kayak expeditions up the Inside Passage, a coastal route that reaches from the Puget Sound in Washington State to Skagway, Alaska. Both journeys were profoundly life-changing and have served as a springboard for my work, focusing on inspiring people to reach their full potential. My tenacious exploration by sea kayak has fueled my stories and images of the natural world for decades and has had a profound influence on the course of my life—and more importantly—on my writing. My debut memoir, "INSIDE: ONE WOMAN'S JOURNEY THROUGH THE INSIDE PASSAGE", launched in May 2016. Since that time it has won five awards, including finalist for the Washington State Book Award, in recognition of its significant contribution to Washington's literary landscape. My children's book, "Inside My Sea of Dreams: The Adventures of Kami and Suz", is adapted from this true story. "Wildly Inside: A Visual Journey Through the Inside Passage", a photo book, rounds out the trio. I'm currently writing my fourth book, focusing on my experience of following in the paddlestrokes of the late, great Audrey Sutherland, the grand dame of expedition paddling. My articles and photographs have appeared in Sea Kayaker, Canoe and Kayak, Adventures Northwest, and Figure magazines. Countless newspapers, guidebooks, and historical journals also feature my work. I've been involved in the paddlesports industry for 25 years and was an American Canoe Association (ACA) Level IV Open Water Coastal certified instructor for 20 years. One of my greatest gifts is the ability to teach both in the classroom and on the water, as evidenced by hundreds of loyal and appreciative students encompassing a broad range of skill levels.
