About Susannah Parnin Mitchell
At Ascendle, I work with clients to strategize, evaluate, and manage complex software builds via proven Agile process as well as design the right-fit Agile process and team for their organizational need. As the VP of Operations, my focus is building and elevating our team to be the best agile consultants and practitioners in the business. Prior to my time at Ascnedle, while growing the Washington Avenue Arts District, I lead the initiative to brand the newly recognized Cultural District, home to the highest concentration of working artists in the nation, and to promote and protect the vibrant creative culture of the area. The project is now overseen by the non-profit, Fresh Arts.I simultaneously worked for a large Arts and Entertainment complex, Silver Street Studios / Sawyer Yards, the heart of the Cultural District, where I built a successful Events and Exhibitions program, doubling revenue year over year, and helping to create a robust and recognized destination for the Arts in Houston. At The Atom Group, I was a dedicated Project Manager with strong pull towards innovative and forward thinking design. On a daily basis I oversaw the technical builds of large web-based applications. More than just a solid technical foundation, my time here provided me with invaluable insight into the user-based considerations that are imperative to great web-based communication. My background prior to these projects is varied. I hold degrees in Art and Design, Political Theory as well as a Masters in Business Administration. I also have extensive experience running successful start-up and non-profit organizations, including a gallery that represented over 600 artists worldwide, and a successful Gallery Walk branding initiative, giving me lots of practice with creative promotion and making the most of a tight budget. In life, my true passion is rooted in support of the arts, non-profit, and entrepreneurial communities. Director
The Washington Avenue Arts District is the newest officially recognized cultural district in Houston. Already, the District is home to several converted warehouse studio buildings which house hundreds of artists and creative entrepreneurs, as well as vast amounts of exhibition and event space. Because of this unique congregation of creative space, the District boasts the highest concentration of working artists in the US. The area is also home to many individual artists’ residences, studios, and arts-focused institutions such as FotoFest, Fresh Arts, Crockett Elementary, an award winning fine arts school and MECA, a multicultural arts education center. Our mission is to preserve, promote and progress the District’s special creative offerings and to bolster the image of the area as desirable place to live, work and play. Our organizational goals are: Weave together the District's arts, business, and residential communities in an effort to support the generation of new opportunities Develop clear and consolidated area marketing that brands the area as a cultural destination Engage in special projects that foster enthusiasm for the arts Contribute, in a significant way, to area beautification Sustain a partnership with local developers and landowners in a continued effort to support the creation of sustainable, affordable and accessible creative spaces The Arts District currently satisfies it’s mission with a three tiered approach:1. Planning and implementing cultural programming that highlights the area and attracts new visitors2. Promoting the ongoing cultural events to reach a wider audience and increase access to the artists who work within the district3. Working directly with local developers and the city in order to build a sustainable model for keeping the artists in place over the long term

I worked with the property developers / owners to establish the exhibition program, stabilize and grow the events program, and roll the programming for all associated properties into a combined programming department in charge of all cultural and for profit events and marketing on the larger Sawyer Yards Creative Campus. In this position I managed the event rentals, doubling the revenue year over year, as well as expanded the program to manage exhibitions and cultural programming, giving the local artists additional platforms for selling work directly to visitors. I've also worked to integrate the events programming with the large campus through thoughtful contracting of synergistic programming and cohesive communication.
