About Susan Stuart Clark

At Common Knowledge, we co-facilitate partnerships and programs for sustained social change. The complex issues facing our economy, environment and society need us to call forth and better connect the human talent that is still largely untapped in our organizations and communities. Our 25+ years of framing and facilitating new kinds of community-wide conversations and collaborations have helped demonstrate that there is much more common ground than most people realize. New perspectives on what is possible is then supported by "community-centric" design of next steps to use radical appreciation for contributions of all kinds to support emergence of transformational outcomes. We help our partners and allies complement "disruptive" innovation with "bridging" innovation. In short, we 1) disrupt by asking new kinds of questions; and 2) bridge with new combinations of people working side by side. With these twin engines, you get to a whole new level of innovation and implementation. Many people now know that projects where one part of a community tries to "Do For" another will fall way short of objectives and waste precious resources. So more projects are aiming to "Do With" -- yet it is often the case that a set of leaders is still defining the problem and miss essential perspectives and capacities that are needed for sustained progress. Common Knowledge is focusing our next chapter on allies that are ready to “Discover With” community to jointly co-generate and iteratively collaborate on transformations to local social eco-systems. We put the "hum" in human and amplify the "we" in well-being.
