I currently run my own consulting firm to provide novel, dynamic solutions for addressing wildlife conservation challenges that include consideration for human dimensions within these issues. I primarily conduct my conservation work in Southeast Asia, but am open to discussion to build new relationships to solve issues related to the Africa-Asia nexus for wildlife trafficking. I am seeking opportunities to provide evidence-based implementation and vision for addressing global biodiversity challenges. Using my extensive ground experience and networks, I am able to successfully deliver tangible results and build strong, long-term partnerships between stakeholders. I previously served as a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow hosted at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of International Affairs working on combating illegal wildlife trade in Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on Indonesia. My major research interests are in the biogeography and evolution of Southeast Asian pteropodid bats, particularly of flying foxes (genus Pteropus and Acerodon). Using this basic understanding of bat evolution, I have worked on fruit bat conservation and emerging infectious diseases. I currently continue to collaborate on research on Southeast Asian mammals (especially bats) through the genomics lab at Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and conduct collections work at the National Museum of Natural History. I mentor and co-advise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at the Smithsonian and affiliated DC-area universities interested in these topics and work closely with other SI scientists to conduct systematics and biogeography research.

As a AAAS STPF Fellow, I served as the Program Manager for Combating Wildlife Trafficking in Southeast Asia, a new interagency effort between the International Bureau of Narcotics and Law Enforcement and the Division of Scientific Authority at USFWS HQ in the DC Metro Area. Our primary activities were focused in Indonesia, with implementation also in Malaysia and Laos.In this position, I have:• Organized and managed 4 capacity building workshops for regional law enforcement agents from multiple ASEAN countries on wildlife crime and forensics • Organized and managed invitational travel for wildlife forensics training at USFWS National Wildlife Forensics Laboratory to build full in-country forensics capacity for Indonesian government entities, including from scientific and legal authorities• Surveyed and assessed effectiveness of Rhino Protection Units as part of national parks management in Indonesia• Provided technical feedback and consultation for grants and projects related to Southeast Asia, bats, or wildlife trafficking for USFWS and INL (State Department)• Provided expertise on Southeast Asia and wildlife trafficking at USG implementation coordination meetings• Assisted in data-driven prioritization of species and countries for implementation of END Wildlife Trafficking Act using analyses of trade data and conservation status• Created scope of work and activities with CITES Secretariat for addressing trafficking issues and permitting system in ASEAN countries and implement high-priority decisions from COP17
