Responsible for developing strategy and building a team to perform all fund development, communications, and public relations activities for this community that houses formerly homeless families and provides supportive services, workforce development, an urban farm, retail plant nursery, and two education centers on the decommissioned Alameda Naval Air Station. Collaborate on a $65,000,000 capital campaign to build a wellness campus/medical respite center, hospice, and permanent supportive housing for homeless seniors.

With 20+ years as a development professional, my experience is broad and includes writing and implementing strategic development plans, grant research and proposal writing, database setup and onboarding, leadership training on cultivation, stewardship and making the ask, as well as outreach and engagement strategies, campaign planning, and event oversight.

Founded in 1965, Horizons has been 100% funded by government grants. In my role, I researched and implemented their first donor database and wrote a Communications, Outreach, Development and Engagement Plan to build a solid platform for individual, corporate and private foundation gifts. Researched funding opportunities, qualified and ranked them before presenting to the leadership team and board. Planned board and staff retreats and trained leadership on cultivation and stewardship best practices; personalized their role in development. Developed and rolled out strategies for a newsletter, events, social media, and fundraising campaigns.

Help prepare organization for merger by managing appeals, newsletter, donor outreach, and special events. Solicit supporters with major gift potential and coordinate annual gala from venue to speakers, staff & volunteers, program, logistics, registration and silent auction.

Established an annual Leadership Breakfast to kick off the Annual Fund campaign and grew revenue by 70% over three years. Implemented a strategy to engage recent Eagle Scouts and encourage continuous support from them. Doubled the number of Merits of Scouting sponsors and maintained funding levels for the Friends of Scouting annual giving campaign despite a decline in membership. Tripled revenue for the 35th Annual Harvest in the Vineyards Wine & Gift Auction from prior two years.

Collaborated on development of a business plan, funding, design and construction of the community-centered coffeehouse. Partnered with an amazing group of individuals to build a not-for-profit gathering place in an abandoned bar with a for-profit café to create local jobs and support programming. Developed a no-cost early literacy program involving story times, music, crafts and science projects for youngsters and their caregivers. Networked with neighborhood leaders and local organizations resulting in the recruitment of over 200 volunteers. Crosstown was a friendly place where families could gather for a light meal, play a game, do crafts or a puzzle, listen to a live performance or view local artists' work. People young and old gathered there for their daily coffee, conversation and creativity.

As first development professional at the school, attained CFRE and compiled a comprehensive fund raising strategy including educating the staff, board and school community on standard fundraising protocols and best practices. Researched and implemented a donor database, established personalized appeals, an e-newsletter, an alumni program, a vehicle donation program, as well as initializing an endowment.

Coordinate the annual giving campaign, supervise the information manager and partner with the alumni director on events. Collaborate with grant writer and assist capital campaign consultant with feasibility study.

Recruited from a corporate partner, developed new sponsorship opportunities to build partnerships with corporations of all sizes. Write grant proposals and pitch engagement opportunities to boards and executive leadership of the companies. Maintain effective relationships with the partners and innovate new ways for businesses to stay involved with manpower and financial support.

In addition to sales support, programming and database administration, served on the community involvement committee, which determines where the company's philanthropic endeavors will be best utilized. Partnered with nonprofit organizations in the planning and execution of fundraising events and building employee volunteer opportunities as well as work events in the community.
