In my current position, I have worked with students in Kindergarten and 2nd grade with an average sized class of 30+ students. During this substitute teaching experience I have worked with children in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade and have had the opportunity to work in a variety of classrooms including working with special education students in inclusion classrooms, self-contained classrooms, resource room, as well as with children in regular classrooms. I have also had experience using the Singapore Math program, Reader's and Writer's workshop and substitute teaching in special classes such as Art, Music, and Physical Education classes.

As Kindergarten teacher, I prepared units, lessons, small and large group activities to create a child-centered learning program in alignment with NY State Learning Standards as well as Common Core Learning Standards. I provided opportunities for children to grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially, provided a safe and equitable environment. Children developed concepts of print and began to engage in and experiment with reading and writing and math concepts. I encouraged children to talk about reading and writing experiences, provided opportunities for children to explore and identify sound-symbol relationships in meaningful contexts, helped children segment spoken words into individual sounds and blend sounds into whole words. I also frequently read interesting and conceptually rich stories and provided daily opportunities to write and build a sight vocabulary. I did this while maintaining good interpersonal skills with the children, their parents/guardians and school staff. I began as the teacher's aide in the preschool classroom, but due to the teacher's medical leave in early March 2007, I was promoted to teacher and remained as teacher until I was moved to Kindergarten in 2010. My responsibilities included preparing thematic units and lessons, preparing play and structured activities for three year old children building intellectual, emotional, and social well being. I prepared activities to develop gross and fine motor skills, activities to develop reading and math skills including print awareness, alphabetic knowledge/recognition, phonological knowledge, number sense, number knowledge, and opportunities to develop oral language development. While supervising children and providing support in their overall development, I also maintained interpersonal skills with the children, their parents/guardians and provided a safe environment where children engaged in learning opportunities through play and structured activities.
