As Learning and Development Manager my priority is to ensure that the educational needs of our Macmillan Professionals are met. We offer a large variety of sessions ranging from Conferences to bespoke training and the content of this is dictated by the feedback we gain from our professionals.

My main role was to develop an online module for professionals who are caring for people who are living with and beyond cancer. This module takes the student through the theory of survivorship, patient experience, consequences of cancer and it's treatment, care planning (including holistic needs assessment), dietary and exercise advise and self management. A variety of learning and teaching approaches are used such as online lectures (expert practitioners), reflective practice, discussion board forums, guided reading (relevant policy and evidenced based research), case studies and peer support. I have also been part of the under and post graduate teaching teams. My current research interest is the prevalence of opioid prescribing in non medical prescribers and their continuing professional development requirements.

Forth Valley Royal Hospital

I have facilitated programmes of education trained nurses. Topics have included end of life care, anticipatory care planning, pain management and symptom management. Health care support worker education has also been a priority. This has more of a focus around the principles of end of life care and the HCSW role. I have led on the development of an ACP learn pro module and this has recently been launched. This is in an attempt to raise awareness of the reasons for ACP and the legal and ethical aspects that it entails.
