Design and teach "Beginning Sewing and Mending" as well as "Intermediate Sewing" at the Berkeley Art Studio. Classes are designed to foster inclusion and belonging. Course materials represent a diversity of makers: age, race, size, etc. Students learn hand and machine sewing, alterations, mending and how to read and use patterns with an overarching goal of being able to better utilize the clothes students already possess. Class size: 12, open to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff and general community. Duration: 4 - 7 weeks. SJSA allows students to explore, discuss and express modes of oppression, lived experiences and creativity. Students read, produce research papers, and write poems while building a strong foundation in sewing and textile art expression. The curriculum is multidisciplinary, drawing on concepts taught in history, ethnic studies, education and sociology; however, the learning is not limited to the text. SJSA students leave the program equipped to solve issues in their communities with innovative thinking tools instilled by activities, assignments and reading. Research Justice at the Intersections (RJI) is an interdisciplinary research group at Mills College that fosters social justice-oriented research and groundbreaking critical analysis. Build partnerships with corporations, community serving institutions such as libraries and others who work with domestic employers to offer Hand in Hand’s My Home is Someone's Workplace, Sanctuary Homes and other workshops and resources to reach new employers in California. Manage the creation or upgrading of any curriculum needed for local workshops or education events. Work with national staff and local leaders on developing curriculum for national webinars, web content or hand-outs on such topics as housecleaning, dignified homecare etc.

The YBCA Fellows program brings together creative citizens from across the Bay Area – artists and everyday people alike – to engage in a yearlong process of inquiry, dialogue and project generation. Each Fellowship cohort will explore and respond to a question that emerged from our annual YBCA 100 summit. Together, they’ll use art and culture to inspire community transformation and drive new possibilities into the public imagination. Fellows’ projects will ultimately be presented at YBCA’s bi-annual Public Square, event that provides a platform to share new information, surface big questions, and enact change.

“Introduction to Writing in Psychology: Writing in the Discipline to Attain Transferable Skills”Course: English 198: Interdisciplinary Writing/Social Science, Autumn 2013 and Winter 2014.Description: Expository writing based on material presented in a specified social science lecture course (Psychology 101). Assignments include drafts of papers to be submitted in the specified course, and other pieces of analytic prose. Concurrent registration in specified course required. Key texts: "They Say/I Say" by Graff and Birkenstein. Selected Psychology writings (literature reviews, journal-length articles and research studies) on the themes of sexual violence and alcohol abuse among college-age students, hoarding and a final topic of the students’ choice.Responsibility: 20 students/class. Design, instruction, and evaluation. 5 credits hours/class.
