I am currently in a position as a Project HSE Manager at a steel fabrication company as the Lead HSE on a big project fabricating multiple offshore sub-stations at many different locations abroad, which has taught me many new skills. Leading a team of international HSE Managers has strengthened my managing skills in new ways, adding to how it is to lead a crew onboard a ship. Working closely with sub-suppliers in different countries with different cultures has challenged my perspective on occupational health and safety, and working with these teams on implementing safety cultural change and improvements has given my understanding of safety management new heights. Having a maritime background as an Officer with experience in Oil and Gas, safety has always been a critical factor in how things must operate. Joining the office as an HSE Specialist and later HSE Manager and working directly with clients, customers, and sub-suppliers have significantly improved my understanding of fabrication and operative safety requirements and regulations. I have worked with oil, gas, and wind energy customers, including TotalEnergies, Equinor, Dominion Energy, and Ineos — all with different and unique national requirements that challenge HSE operations.
