About Sven Leff, Mba, Cpre

I believe in the goodness of people and power of living in community. I love the mountains, oceans, skies and rivers. These are basically the reasons I chose a career in the parks & recreation industry, where we are stewards of public resources and we create opportunities for people to strengthen relationships and make memories. It happens on a ball field; it happens at a picnic in a park; it happens at special events. There’s nothing more satisfying than working hard on constructing a new park or opening an outdoor pool or beach and then seeing the rush of users on opening day enjoy it so much. Ultimately, my work is to build community and improve the quality of life in the communities I serve.Since starting as a part-time youth sports official in 1988, my career has given me the opportunity to be challenged, learn and grow year after year. As a leader at the department, local, state and national levels I take my responsibility to inspire, teach, mentor and role model seriously. While my formal education has been beneficial, it’s the professional network that has paid the biggest dividends, and this translates into my support for professional development and community involvement for those in my organization. I still like to have fun and enjoy the people I encounter, and yet I expect high quality work, customer service and productivity from myself and my team. It is a privilege to have made a career out of such public service and to work with such passionate people in our organization.
