Embracing old school journalism at nearly a century-old organisation after working for new media for almost a decade

Seven state polls, covering HT leadership Summit 2022 among other big events apart from managing daily news cycles, training junior team members and writing and editing stories - this is the summary of a year-long stint with the digital unit of decades-old-newspaper, one of the most credible in the country. I wrote over 2,000 articles apart from editing many more that got over 10 million page views.

NDTV Convergence (with the OG team) has played a crucial role in shaping my perspective towards news coverage, editing and writing. It was here that I learnt to manage the pressure of newsbreaks while growing sharper as an editor and a writer. Several elections were held during my stint here and that helped in getting a 360 degree view of important events. It was inspiring to be a core part of the team that ensured seamless coverage despite pandemic and other challenges. I am glad I could be trusted to run shifts while being a constant learner.

In the short stint with Newsweek, I worked as a News Editor with International Business Times- US Edition. From starting the day with agenda setting to editing content, tracking trends and managing home page -- the routine included everything that an editor has to do engage a reader. Most challenging bit? Managing a news desk in India when your target group is in the United States

Editing a diverse set of stories from Noida, Gurgaon and Delhi and local stories that eventually became important for the entire country was a part of the daily workflow. This was the first time I worked with a newspaper and it sure was great learning from some of the best in the business. Also, occasionally, I wrote stories too :)

Worked with WION (World is One News) – wionews.com- as a shift lead in its launch phase •Prior to this, I was working as a senior desk person for dnaindia.com's hyperlocal platorm. Daily workflow included churning out news and local content with a lean Delhi desk team, coordinating with a team of reporters spread across the country, editing content and bringing fresh ideas to the table. During my stint, I edited and packaged hyper-local stories being reported from Srinagar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Faridabad, Patna, Kolkata, Varanasi, Gurgaon, Kurukshetra , Hisar and Sonipat. I also closely followed the unrest in Kashmir during this period.

As a part of the core editorial team of 'Human Capital', one of India's first people management magazines, I gained valuable experience not only about the functioning of HR across sectors in India Inc, but also about career management, leadership development, talent crunch, work-place relationships, employer-employee psyche, work-life balance and evolution of employment industry. While doing cover stories (that discussed the hottest HR issues), profiling section (where leaders from top-notch organisations discussed their professional journey), features (that discussed interesting agendas for everyone from leaders to employees) and special section on work-life balance (Life beyond Work), I got to interview corporate honchos across sectors working with key market players such as Infosys, IBM, Tata group, Genpact, CSC, Accenture, Hay Group, Towers Watson, PWC, Ernst and Young, GE ITC, Vedanta, Steria, Emami, Philips, SAP Labs, Dell, Flipkart, among many others.

Gurgaon

Worked with Media Transasia as a sub-editor/ reporter for a year for Swagat, the Air India Magazine with a rich legacy; and India Perspectives, the monthly publication of Ministry of External Affairs. My body of work included profile interviews- writers (Sarnath Banerjee, Thoudam Netrajit Singh), celebrities ( Mona Singh, Anupam Kher, Jacqueline Fernandez, Siddharth Roy Kapoor), artists (Arpana Caur, Prajakta Potnis,Ila Arun ); food, music, books, and resort reviews. I also handled client magazines for Tupperware (T-life) and Maruti (Gatirang) singlehandedly.

At NIIT ELS, I got an opportunity to work on an e-learning project wherein I learnt to maintain a balance between quantity and quality. I also got to add value to various e-learning courses in the K-12 segment with respect to language and functionality.
