About Steven Xu

As a third-year Engineering Physics student at the University of British Columbia, I am actively seeking opportunities in software, electrical, and mechanical engineering. I will be working as an Embedded Systems Intern in Quantum Sensing at Robert Bosch GmbH this Summer 2025.Robotics has become one of my passions as I love working on autonomous projects. I take pride in an integrated engineering approach centred around problem-solving and building fundamental understandings to find innovative solutions. I previously worked as a Software Engineering Co-op at Meta Materials, focused on applying software to nanotechnology in bank authentication. I am familiar with programming in Python, C, C++, and Java, and experimenting with web development technologies such as HTML/CSS, React, and JavaScript. My interests also include machine learning and AI, participating in a recent generative AI hackathon that developed a functional AI Chatbot in Amazon Bedrock using the Claude model. I love attending hackathons and am always open to learning new projects, taking supplementary courses to further my skills and gaining familiarity with Data Structures and Algorithms. I've also gained firmware experience through our Robot Summer classes, leading sensor detection and control theory developments. At UBC, I'm involved with UBC Sailbot on the Software Simulation team and volunteer for the UBC EUS as the Webmaster. I also volunteered as a project coordinator on the Student Alumni Council while engaging as an Engineering Student Ambassador and DAE Student Ambassador. I've participated in UBC-led hackathons such as nwHacks, CIC Cloud Computing Hackathon and ProduHacks. Through dual credit courses, I have extensive experience with SOLIDWORKS and engineering drawings. My projects have ranged from simple 3-D printed objects to large-scale airplane integration designs. I gained a certification in the UBC PHAS machine shop, using basic tools such as lathes and mills. Outside of my academic pursuits, I am an active volunteer in my community and have a passion for sports and music. One of my aspirations is to travel the world and meet new people. I love being outdoors and exploring everything the world has to offer!
