As a reading tutor for JEP, I worked weekly with students from disadvantaged communities to improve their phonemic awareness and reading comprehension. My role involved providing consistent mentorship and academic support, fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment that helped students build confidence in their reading skills. I also collaborated with other tutors to create engaging lesson plans and activities tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students. Through collaboration and brainstorming, we ensured that the learning experience was both effective and enjoyable, resulting in significant improvements in the students' literacy levels.

In my role, I created infographics and social media content to help educate disadvantaged communities about environmental health exposures, with a primary focus on air pollution and its effects on Latinx mothers and their babies. I collaborated with other researchers and helped conduct literature reviews on a wide variety of topics including children's cardiovascular health, biological aging, and obstetric complications. This role also provided me with the opportunity to help educate the communities of Los Angeles most affected by environmental disparities through workshops and health screening services. This internship allowed me to gain valuable insights into environmental health disparities and the critical importance of health education.
