I work for The Language Conservancy as a documentary linguist providing technical and linguistic support for Dene (Athabaskan) partners. I work in-person and remotely with indigenous community members and language keepers to record audio, transcribe and refine spellings, and produce English translations for digital dictionaries, vocabulary apps, and storybook projects, as well as provide technical training and support for community members pursuing language work in their own communities.

The Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR) was created in 2002 together with the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme in response to the dramatic decline of linguistic diversity with a generous donation by Arcadia, the charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin. ELAR is the archive for endangered language materials for grantees of the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme, a grant-making programme supporting documenters and linguists all over the world in their documentation work.At ELAR, we preserve and publish collections of audio and video recordings, transcriptions and translations, dictionaries, and primers in and of endangered languages created with and by speakers of the endangered languages. We also digitise legacy collections in analogue formats saving them from deterioration and making them accessible to the speaker and their descendants, scholars, and the public.ELAR currently holds materials for over 550 endangered languages recorded in over 70 different countries.

As part of this international research consortium, I read language grammars in order to code 197 data points related to the existence (or lack thereof) of certain grammatical features within each language. Each language coded contributes to the Glottobank database which will be the world’s largest comparative resource for documenting and understanding linguistic diversity. With over 2,000 languages coded to date, publication is anticipated in 2022.

I teach regular ESL classes to Chinese children, interfacing via Landi’s custom, interactive platform. Lessons are either 1:1 or 1:2 and cover everything from alphabet and phonics to grammar, word order, tense and particles. I uplift, guide, and inform students of all ages and levels while maximizing fun-learning to exceed course objectives.

I taught grammar, vocabulary, syntax, phonics, reading and writing for DaDaABC via their custom online platform. I interfaced 1:1 with over 13 regular students ranging in age from 3 to 11 years, and in level from day-1 beginners to intermediate and advanced.
