My practice focuses on trademarks, copyright, branding and commercial IP matters. I act on behalf of clients across industries, including music and entertainment, luxury goods and high fashion, beer and spirits and software and technology.I am a registered trademark agent and have a busy practice comprising of litigation of infringement involving trademarks and copyright, brand strategy and domain name disputes, as well as trademark clearance, prosecution and opposition. I have appeared before the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Trademarks Opposition Board. I also advise on general commercial intellectual property matters, such as licensing, acquisition, joint development and collaboration agreements, and intellectual property matters in corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, financings and insolvencies. I have been recognized four years in a row as a Rising Star in Canada by Managing IP. I am active in the IP bar, including as the Lead of the Trademarks and Copyright Subcommittee on the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s (IPIC) Conference Committee and a member of the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee for the International Trademark Association (INTA). I am also dedicated to the advancement of women in law and IP, as evidenced by my role as Co-Chair of the Osler Women Lawyers’ Network.

Connect is mandated by its record label members, including the major labels and most Canadian independent labels, to license the reproduction of sound recordings and the reproduction and broadcast of music videos on behalf of the copyright owners. As the Director of Legal & Business Affairs, I was responsible for structuring and negotiating lucrative licensing agreements with multinational digital service providers while acting as lead advisor and negotiator on an array of IP, corporate and commercial issues and agreements. I was also responsible for our trademark portfolio and collaborated with General Counsel and external counsel in respect of strategy for multiple Copyright Board proceedings.

Re:Sound is the Canadian not-for-profit organization dedicated to obtaining fair compensation for artists and record companies for their performance rights. In my role as Legal Counsel, I drafted and negotiated major international agreements and all types of corporate and commercial agreements. I also advised the business with respect to all corporate matters, such as corporate governance, regulatory compliance and corporate law, Canadian and U.S. tax, privacy and litigation management.

As an Associate in the Corporate Restructuring Group at Goodmans, I practiced in the areas of corporate restructuring, corporate law and financial services. I was involved in a variety of recapitalizations, restructurings, corporate reorganizations, acquisitions and financing transactions pursuant to proceedings under the CCAA, BIA and CBCA.
