Transworld, a subsidiary of Orascom Investment Holding, is Pakistan’s only private sector organization with exclusive ownership to submarine fibre optic cable networks and a leading connectivity provider in Pakistan. Transworld in itself is an expanding group of four companies which includes three subsidiaries namely Transworld Enterprise Services, Transworld Infrastructure Services and TES Media Pvt Ltd. I am managing two departments here, Tax department and Finance department. Being Head of Tax department, I am responsible for taxation of group companies which includes tax planning and reporting, filing of all federal & provincial sales tax returns, withholding tax returns, income tax returns, and managing all federal and provincial tax audits & compliances of all four group companies.Finance department is broadly responsible for monthly financial closings, fixed assets, inventory and account payables of Transworld associates, It’s also responsible for preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual separate and condensed financial statements, monthly group reporting of consolidated accounts and coordinating quarterly and annual audits of consolidated financials of Transworld group.Special Projects and achievements:>) Successful Led Fixed Assets cleansing and tagging exercise of the company. An FAR of more than two decades with >5000 Assets geographically dispersed in multiple locations.>) Currently leading SAP S/4 Hana reimplementation exercise of the Trans World Group. This includes integration of the E-Invoicing systems with SAP.>) Recognition letter for successful completion of post-sale mid-month special audit exercise of the group.

-) Finance and Commercial Role:Reportable to Country Controller, it’s a diverse reporting and management role which involves performing monthly revenue and cost analysis, preparing and posting adjustments, preparing budgets, forecast & management report and reviewing monthly balance sheet reconciliations. My responsibilities also included preparing financial statements, supervising internal and external audits, resolving and coordinating corporate queries; performing Fixed Assets/Inventory management and reporting, and preparing other Adhoc reports. Further, I was involved in business development, preparing and presenting bidding strategy and financial business support analysis for different Rig ITBs after thorough coordination with Operations, HR, Safety, supply chain and other departments and helping in selling the analysis to Region for approval before final submission in ITB -) Tax and Corporate Affairs: Besides above I was responsible for handling all tax-related matters from tax planning to reviewing and ensuring submission of all federal and provincial income and sales tax, withholding tax, advance tax and other statements; and communication with tax consultants and federal & provincial tax authorities. I was responsible for compliance of all received notices, corporate affairs, and other laws.I was also a Founding Trustee of WDI Employees’ Gratuity Fund and was managing all Fund related matters.

It was a mixed tax role which involved performing compliance services as well as providing advice and arguing appeals before Commissioner (Appeals). Major categories of services can be summarised as follows:  Advising clients on the issues of local corporate tax, federal indirect taxes and provincial indirect taxes. Preparation of income tax, sales tax and provincial sales tax returns and e-filing it with the FBR’s web portal. Advising on cross border transactions in light of the local law and bilateral tax treaties, and obtaining income tax withholding exemption certificate for non-residents. Conducting tax briefings of inbound and outbound expatriate employees to apprise them of their tax responsibilities, and preparation of their income tax returns. Preparing replies to notices issued by tax authorities for amendment of assessments, corporate and sale tax audits and examinations aimed at evaluating compliance of withholding tax obligations. Preparing applications for obtaining income tax withholding exemption certificates for companies.

Using my knowledge of IFRSs, ISAs, internal controls, Corporate and tax laws, and excellent ERP end user skills, I successfully supervised and lead teams on statutory and non-statutory audits, limited scope reviews and agreed-upon procedure assignments.
