This is a research intensive postdoctoral fellowship that focuses on developing expertise around the semantic web (particularly RDF and ontologies) and the prototyping of tools capable of assisting academics in consuming and curating the new data that digital environments are making available.

This course is intended for humanities-based researchers with no programming background whatsoever who would like to understand how programs work behind the scenes by writing some simple but useful programs of their own. Over the week the emphasis will be on understanding how computer programmers think so that participants will be able to at least participate in high-level conceptual discussions in the future with more confidence. These general concepts will be reinforced and illustrated with hands-on development of simple programs that can be used to help with text-based research and analysis right away. The language used for most of the course will be Python because of its gentle syntax and powerful extensions. Using the command-line interface and regular expressions will also be emphasized. We will also spend some time taking glimpses at what is happening in the other DHSI courses to understand how reading and writing programming code goes well beyond what we touch on in this class.

Eurekamp is a series of week-long summer day camps. This non-prot program targets children ages 5-14 and is sponsored by Philosophy for Children Alberta. Developed in a collaboration between students and professional educators, each camp is designed to get children excited about learning by prompting questions through activity, play, and facilitated discussion. During my five years as camp director I have grown the camp from a 25 camper pilot to a program with 250 campers in summer 2013 with programs the interweave writing, science, performance art, medicine, engineering, literature,and philosophy. I oversaw all aspects of the development of this program in partnership with program director Professor Rob Wilson. This included developing contacts, liaising with schools, building teacher training programs (including a philosopher in residence program), website development and deployment (p4c.ualberta.ca), and coordinating grants and other funding.

Ongoing maintenance and development of the front end components of the online learning system used by the department (Moodle). Training and troubleshooting for both instructors and students. Before the University of Alberta centralized its Moodle accounts I provided moodle administration and access to members of 5 departments, hosting approximately 2000 students.
