I have completed a Master's in Art History and a postgraduate Master's in Museums and Heritage Studies. Between these degrees, I have gained academic and practical knowledge about the museums and heritage sector. During my postgraduate degree I worked at the Scottish Fisheries Museum in an internship integrated with my dissertation and turned my theoretical knowledge into valuable experience, helping my personal and professional development. I became experienced in SPECTRUM accredited procedures, data logging on Modes, and with varied object handling and transportation requirements. My dissertation focussed on how small museums of national significance can better utilise it’s collections to promote community engagement. I have worked for five years in the hospitality sector mainly as a food and beverage assistant, also learning how to work and manage a bar, in order to support myself financially through university. The customer service and problem solving skills I have acquired in this time will translate to any place of work I find myself in. I am used to a pressurised work environment, making me adept to making decisions quickly and efficiently. At university I became the treasurer of the St. Andrews Rifle Club during the Coronavirus Pandemic. I was in charge of negotiating a fair membership fee with the Athletics Union and of setting and maintaing a realistic annual budget. There was pressure at this time to keep the club running efficiently whilst also maintaining its member-base. At various times I was additionally in charge of team selection, mental health checks on members and of booking accomodation and transport for away competitions. Since the age of 18 I have balanced university, sport, and a job at the same time in order to make the most of my opportunities. I am used to organising my time and resources to make sure one part of my life is not a detriment to another, always maintaining the right attitude for any situation.
