About Tamsyn Smith

I love working in education as every day is different and there are always new opportunities. Finding creative solutions to challenges in education is what gets me up in the morning!Described as energetic, passionate and conscientious, I combine my capability and experience to identify resolutions that meet both the immediate needs of individuals and strategic drivers. Matching my behaviour and methods to the teams that I work with supports them to achieve their goals. I’m not someone who will try to shoehorn EdTech where it isn’t required! I take a systematic approach to analysing curriculum, providing advice and practical help with ensuring that pedagogically appropriate and supportable technologies are used to enhance the teaching and learning process.It’s important to me to engage, coach and develop others in their own style. I enjoy helping people to stand back, think about pedagogy and then develop courses or educational resources that deliver the desired outcomes. Nothing beats seeing students (and staff) having ‘lightbulb moments’.My skill at disseminating new developments and good practice in educational technology has led to me presenting nationally and internationally.Over fifteen thousand learners have participated in ‘Shipwrecks and Submerged Worlds: Maritime Archaeology’, a Massive Online Open Course that I project managed. I was responsible for the learning design and for ensuring that the project was completed in a timely fashion, which is no small job when there is a large team of people involved!My love of solo sports (swimming, cycling and running) gives me plenty of time ponder how to tackle thorny issues… as well as providing material for my national award-winning blog (Fat Girl to Ironman).I’m full of enthusiasm for what I do and enjoy the role that I have.
