I am one of a select group of individuals who are a part of Wake Forest University’s Class of 2027 Emerging Leaders Program. Within the next three-years, I will obtain a Master of Science in Management through the School of Business and then continue my graduate education at the School of Medicine, where I will receive a Master of Medical Sciences in Physician Assistant Studies. I wouldn’t describe my path to healthcare as one that was straight and narrow. The avenues leading me here were those with many turns and crossroads. Secondary to my undergraduate education at the University of Florida, I experienced six years of working in the professional world. I have worked as a multimedia journalist and flight attendant for American Airlines, both careers that offered me invaluable experience, preparing me to be a healthcare provider who can communicate across a diverse population and exemplify empathy. Presented with new opportunities, I have used this motivation to excel in my academics and immerse myself in healthcare. I have since worked as a certified nursing assistant and medical scribe in the emergency department. I believe these roles have been crucial to my understanding in how to approach challenging encounters and better serve those patients living in medically underserved communities. As the future approaches, I am eager to join those health care professionals who have returned to these rural communities, making an impact on those with limited access to care, while also bridging the gap between medical management and clinical medicine.
