I currently work on the Fuller Unit which consists of primarily post-surgical patients. Here I have gained medical/surgical experience, applied classroom knowledge to determine appropriate care and communication techniques per each patient’s physical and/or developmental needs, interacted with a variety of medical professionals in an interdisciplinary setting to problem-solve patient care concerns, and provided support and education for patients and their families.

I worked to provide fun camp activities for young day-campers aged 3-7 years old. This consisted of lesson planning, outdoor activities, crafts, age-appropriate learning activities, and Bible stories. Learning to work and communicate effectively with a variety of age groups was an exciting challenge, and one I was thankful to be part of.

I assisted the elderly and disabled with activities of daily living and provided care for a variety of needs. I worked with many clients who had dementia as well as physical disabilities that left them mobility restricted. This gave me valuable experience with trying different communication techniques. I enjoyed being part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team at this long-term care facility as there was a lot of interaction between the nurses and LNAs.

I provided quality customer service and organized store merchandise. This summer job taught me how to communicate well with customers as well as coworkers. It also gave me experience with leadership, organization, and time management skills.
