This entry-level position under general supervision, works a member of the CoE Shop to design, fabricate, assemble and test various precision laboratory, research instrumentation and equipment. This position also acts as a consultant to University researchers, Graduate and Undergraduate students to provide technical solutions for machining strategies, welding strategies, alternatives and material selection. Assist the Shop Supervisor in the CoE mandated formalized technical machine tool instructional program. This will include the development of educational materials (In house, Video & Online) and the presentation of these materials on an individual and formalized class basis. This position will also perform welding support for instruction in the College of Engineering as well as research.Perform a broad range of precision welding fabrication, assembly and inspection operations in the construction of highly complex scientific apparatus, from a variety of metals. Perform all types of out-of-position (overhead, vertical, limited-space, etc.) welding using a variety of UHV welding techniques and equipment to include: GTAW. (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) to weld steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium and other dissimilar metals as well as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) to weld steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium and other dissimilar metals. Knowledge in brazing and soldering techniques along with plasma and flame cutting.As a member of the CoE Shop staff, conduct seminars and monitor student performance as part of the Student Shop Certification Program for welding. Train the student shop Technicians employed by the student shop in basic (GMAW), advanced (GTAW) welding methods, and basic plasma and flame cutting processes.Provide backup support for the department's rapid prototyping facilities including running prints and maintaining the printer(s).

Train the student shop Technicians employed by the student shop in basic (GMAW), advanced (GTAW) welding methods, basic and multi-axis machine tool use.
