Sprint Team Lead
CurrentLANL Lead for Navy Versatile Targeting System (VTS) Concept, providing an effectiveness evaluation, cost (~$150M), schedule, and engineering guidance.Developed capability that rapidly assess massive scale, real-time targeting scenarios from USSTRATCOM. Advised LANL senior management, USSTRATCOM, and the U.S. Navy on future weapon concept effectiveness on a scale and timeline that was not possible before. This capability continues to grow, with a vision to directly link weapon design parameters to the weapon effectiveness. This will allow for rapid concept development to advise USSTRATCOM.Managed a core team of engineers who respond to high level rapid-response questions asked by external customers (i.e. Department of Defense, Department of Energy, etc) to LANL Senior-Level Management. Lead teams that perform rigorous one week long engineering evaluation analysis, including predictions of system and component response, weapon packaging, structural evaluation, and weaponeering and targeting sensitivities. List of notable achievements include: Versatile Targeting System (VTS), SLCM AoA, USSTRATCOM Target Analysis, and HDBT Defeat options.
Weapons Advanced Engineering And Analysis - W-13
Mechanical/Structural Analyst providing finite element analysis support for the Stockpile Responsiveness Program, and multiple Global Security programs, including Capabilities for Nuclear Intelligence.Lead Mechanical Analyst for the Stockpile Responsiveness Program Challenge Problem 1 and Challenge Problem 2.Utilize Python scripting to build and assemble ABAQUS input decks in a uniform baseline format for Implicit, Explicit, and Coupled Eulerian/Lagrangian dynamic simulations, as well as extract critical information from the simulation output.Knowledge transfer candidate for renowned penetration mechanics expert. Experience and formal training in penetration mechanics and capabilities.
Sprint Core Team Member
Member of a core team of engineers who respond to high level rapid-response questions asked by external customers (i.e. Department of Defense, Department of Energy, etc) to LANL Senior-Level Management. Team performs rigorous one week long engineering evaluation analysis, including predictions of system and component response, weapon packaging, structural evaluation, weaponeering and targeting sensitivities, and many other out of the box analysis.
Weapons Product Definition - W-11
The product definition group supports the entire Weapons Directorate by designing, prototyping, and implementing products, tests, simulations, and guidelines; ensuring the qualification, modernization, and overall quality of the U.S. Nuclear Stockpile. In W-11 I designed many complex mechanical systems, including designing multiple dynamic mock weapons components that are used in extreme testing environments. I also developed multiple structural/mechanical systems that with stand extreme shock environments generated from high explosives. I have been a qualification test lead, which provides engineering insight into how the test should be executed. Test leads schedule and coordinate between the design, drafting, analysis, manufacturing, inspection, assembly, and test facilities to ensure that the test components are developed and produced on time and that the test is executed successfully.Being in the product definition group, not only was I subjected to designing mechanical systems, but maintained skills and proficiency in drafting, analysis, manufacturing, GD&T, assembly, testing, and production.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Worked within a small group that designed an underwater robot, utilized in a dancing fountain at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. This multi-million dollar project was the highest priority within the company at the time. The team consisted of 2 Mechanical Engineers, 1 Electrical Engineer, and a few Controls Engineers. Due to personnel circumstances, I was promoted from intern, to co-lead Mechanical Engineer.Directly responsible for the design, development, and assembly of the first article prototype of the aforementioned, underwater robot. This effort provided insight on modifications that created a smooth transition to the final production design. I was responsible for the implementation of these design modifications as the product was transitioned from conceptual design to the final, production ready product. This was a challenging task, due to the feature specifications in comparison to the mechanical allowance for pump, nozzle, manifold, and other design specs. The short timeline allotted for no variance in long lead items, meaning that the mechanical items (pump, shaft seals, motors, gearboxes, etc.) needed to be specified very early within the design process, and the rest of the design was to account for these specs. I was directly responsible for specification of the pump (based off of the pump curve and NPSH values required), mechanical shaft seals, and the manifold. I also helped specify the motors and gearboxes.Worked directly with purchasing, production, assembly, and installation/maintenance to ensure my designs were easy to manufacture, easy to assemble, serviceable, and durable. Communicated with multiple vendors to provide a smooth procurement process for servo motors, pumps, and custom rotary shaft seals. Interacted with electrical and controls engineers to ensure cooperation between the mechanical specifications and motion control abilities.Within 2 months the product went from conception to production, and was installed in February 2016.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Contributed 25% of project work to the design and drafting process of the boiler plant, and HVAC system at the new Boeing manufacturing facility in Helena, Montana.Responsible for drafting HVAC schematics, plumbing schematics, valving schematics, details, sections, etc. in both AutoCAD and Revit.Learned systems include, but is not limited to: Variable Air Volume (VAV), Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF), Heat pumps (ground source, air source, and water source), and general plumbing practices.Designed a database, from ground up, that stores all projects that the firm has/will complete. The database was presented to the CEO and COO at the end of the internship and was implemented in all offices. This tool will save the engineers an immense amount of time when searching for past projects and will be used during proposal write-ups.
Greens Keeper
Maintained integrity of the private golf course by executing basic tasks such as: mowing greens, collars, aprons, tees, rough, as well as raking bunkers.Quickly Promoted from the basic tasks to more privileged tasks such as: rolling greens, top dressing, using expensive commercial riding mowers, running heavy equipment (Loader, Skid Steer, Tractor, etc.), and driving the company vehicle.Group work is essential to effectively complete tasks in a timely and professional manner.Responsible for individual projects that were completed in a timely and professional manner with no supervision required.
