My primary areas of interest and expertise are in research, project management and policy development intended to support and improve the lives of vulnerable communities and individuals, particularly children. My academic and work experience has centred on issues around precarious livelihoods, including poverty and income inequality, decent work, governance, gender inequality and young people. For over ten years, I have worked and conducted research with NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) throughout South Asia and East Africa. Through these experiences, I have developed cross-cultural awareness and adaptability.My doctoral studies at the University of Oxford looked at children’s work within the informal sector in Kolkata, India. My research centred on the way children’s work is regulated through formal and informal structures of governance. I evaluated the effectiveness of programs that aim to support working children.I have extensive experience designing and implementing research projects at every stage of development – from writing grant applications and securing funds, to hiring and training research associates, and collecting and translating the data into high-quality reports. A necessary element of this work is project management – planning, budgeting, implementation, evaluation and reporting. The most satisfying part of these projects is evaluating the implementation and outcome of programming designed to support communities. In my career, I wish to extend beyond the research and actively participate in developing tangible and sustainable solutions that support the health and well-being of the most vulnerable.
