RESPONSIBILITIES:In charge of delivering the exploration strategy, overall development plan, reserve booking, and economic evaluation of company’s tight gas asset in eastern Ordos Basin, China;Deploying well location, carrying out evaluation of appraisal and development wells, and comprehensive reservoir characterization;Geological design for drilling, completion, testing, and workover;Supporting the operation during drilling, completion and testing phase;Be responsible for monitoring well performance, decline curve analysis, and EUR estimation;Documenting well testing work flow, production optimization plan;Coaching and mentoring less experienced employees, and building the surface team;ACHIEVEMENTS:Obtained CNPC’s approval of the pilot development program for the northern block, and overall development plan (ODP) for the southern block;Doubled the company’s booked gas reserve from 2.26 TCF to 4.53TCF;Raised reservoir penetration in horizontal wells from 52% to 65% through better understanding of reservoir quality, geometry, and lateral continuity of sandbodies;Reduced 20% cost of drilling and completion, and boosted single well production from 3.5 MMSCF/d to 7.0 MMSCF/d via intensive collaboration with operational team;

RESPONSIBILITIES:Screening of new venture and exploration acreage including construction of basin models for prospect ranking and screening in China;Performing basin synthesis studies with focus on the evaluation / risking of source rocks as part of the petroleum system description;Carrying out the evaluation of unconventional plays / areas using classical or innovative mapping / modeling techniques, leading to volumetric calculations as well as analysis of relevant uncertainties and risk assessments;Working closely with operation team to ensure delivery of committed wells on time and under budget;Reporting of technical studies and appropriate presentation to management and partners; ACHIEVEMENTS:Screened the shale gas opportunity in Sichuan province, participated in the PSC negotiation with PetroChina, and completed the draft of PSC as a member of geoscience review team;Collaborated with global new venture team to convert the tight oil opportunity in Santanghu basin, Xinjiang province into a PSC, and led the subsurface team during the execution of the exploration and appraisal phase;The efforts in the above project led to the completion of all the committed wells markedly ahead of schedule and below the budget, and helped build the image of HESS as a leader in unconventional domain in China;Established a work flow and protocol for tight oil exploration and appraisal which has been adopted by PetroChina to other tight oil play;Played a key role in the farm out analysis resulted in farming out 30% work interest to Petronas, which significantly reduced the risk and proved correct with the results of appraisal wells;Led the subsurface evaluation of the joint study analysis with Shengli oil field, Bohai Bay Basin, which anchored HESS’s leadership in understanding of the lacustrine unconventional resources in the world;

RESPONSIBILITIES:Investigating and proposing new ideas and innovative approaches for unconventional exploration;Capitalizing from the various studies through the generation of reference documents to reinforce ConocoPhillips experience;Participating to international bidding rounds and farm out analysis;Contribute to peer-assist and corporate management reviews for the final sanction of such business opportunities;ACHIEVEMENTS:Carried out screening of over 30 unconventional opportunities around the world, with focus on Asia Pacific, and highlighted 3 opportunities for business sanction – shale gas in Sichuan, CBM in Qinshui, and shale oil in Junggar basin;Assisted the business team farm into GREKA’s CBM acreage in Qinshui Basin, and provided technical guidance thereafter, achieved 3 fold single well production jump thereafter;A jointed study analysis on shale gas in Sichuan was signed with PetroChina aimed at a possible PSC in the future;

RESPONSIBILITIES:Planning and evaluation of appraisal and development wells of PL19-3 oil field, offshore Bohai;Explaining the performance of existing wells by understanding the reservoir quality and lateral continuity;Determining reservoir structure, faulting, and variations in properties in inter-well areas;Applying appropriate stochastic techniques for distributing petrophysical parameters including facies types, porosity, and permeability;Working with reservoir, drilling engineer, geophysicist, and petro physicist to improve reservoir performance;ACHIEVEMENTS:Completed the planning and execution of over 10 production and injector wells on WHP-D jack-up without any accidents or delay;Optimized the field development plan with reservoir engineers, outperformed WHP-D to all other 5 platforms;Successfully planed and geo-steered the first horizontal well in the PL19-3 field, achieved 85% sand penetration in the 700 m lateral length;

RESPONSIBILITIES:Seismic stratigraphic modeling and interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data sets;Generating regional tectonic and stratigraphic interpretation from seismic and well data and making these available for petroleum system analysis and basin modeling;Interaction with petroleum system analysts and regional geologists to build seismic sequence stratigraphic interpretation and populate 3D basin models for risking and uncertainty analysis; Generations of petroleum play concepts, and maturing the concepts to leads and prospects;Initiating / following up of geological specialty studies whenever needed (Structural Geology, Petrophysics, Geopressure...);ACHIEVEMENTS:Identified fractured basement play as an under-explored and high-potential exploration target, and laid out plan for further evaluation;Proposed 3D acquisition and PSDM reprocessing for one of the identified basement play, which significantly improved the seismic images and mitigated the risk for prospect delineation; Realized geopressure is a key factor in another basement play, led the definition and implementation of geopressure studies carried out by Houston Upstream Technology, and organized a global peer assist and review in Vietnam and Houston, respectively;Matured the PL9-1 fractured basement play to a drillable prospect through detailed fracture delineation by seismic, analysis of “dry” holes, and integration of analogue. The prospect turned to be a major discovery by CNOOC in 2011 after relinquishment by COP;

Assisted Houston New Venture team building the evolution history of offshore Bohai Bay basin, assessing the dry hole and non-economic discoveries in COP BZ11/05 block; Identified the play fairway of BZ22 along the extension of a major strike slip fault, and presented the idea to management for further evaluation;

Conducted 3D geo-modeling of an experimental data set with Petrel;Performed numerical experiments to investigate the impact of lithofacies on permeability continuity;Compared different algorithms used in permeability estimation;

Taught Petrophysics for undergraduate students, and directed summer field trips;Conducted research related to petroleum geology, sedimentology, structure geology, geochemistry, etc.;
