I'm an expert writer and editor with more than 20 years’ experience communicating public policy issues for government and private enterprises in Australia and the UK. I hold a BA in Management (Uni. Canberra) and a Masters in Public Policy (USYD) - yes, I love writing, and I love policy.Since establishing Topdeck in 2006, I've edited and written strategic documents for the NSW planning and transport portfolios, and worked in policy areas such as infrastructure, innovation, sport, education and the environment. Audiences are as broad as general public to technical nerds; content varies from web copy and brochures, to strategies and plans, through to lengthy technical reports. I might develop content from scratch, undertake a full strategic edit - where I look at structure, tone, consistency and style - or give a document a short, sharp proofread. I also develop style guides for organisations and projects, and host report writing and communications workshops and 1:1 training.I pride myself on running a sole-trading business - it means I can remain an apolitical, objective adviser to government and business. This model also means I retain direct contact with clients and direct involvement in projects. I'm increasingly interested in policy development and how we can help people understand the rationale behind policy. My communications background means I understand the strategic value of communications from a policy perspective and effectively wear two hats when editing or writing a document.
